Tonight was absolutely hectic—there are no other words to describe it. The line stretched all the way down O’Connell Street and right up into Mary Street. We are utterly exhausted—it was absolute bedlam. We served just under 400 meals tonight, and in the end, we still ran short. We had six six-foot tables completely filled with food, reloaded them three times, and it still wasn’t enough.

I genuinely don’t know what’s happening in our country—so many people lining up for food, yet each one of them waited with the utmost respect and quietness. The number of children and elderly there tonight was heartbreaking. The number of rough sleepers was overwhelming. The number of older people in that line, just trying to get something to eat, was devastating. Poverty has no mercy.

We are absolutely shattered. We thought we might be able to take home some extra supplies for next week, but tonight proved otherwise. Even with a large transit van filled to the brim, we returned home with nothing left.

Nine years. We’ve been here, outside the GPO, for nine years now. And tonight was one of the heaviest nights we’ve ever had—physically, emotionally, and mentally. The stories we hear, the solemn faces in the queue, the quiet desperation of people just trying to get a bit of food—it’s utterly heartbreaking. Hearing people say, "Please listen to me, please try and help me" breaks us every time. I just pray that God gives us the strength to continue and provides for those who need it most.
