I will repeatā¦God forbid if even one person gets so much as a scratch over this, you and Carla will have to answer for it. Itās on you. You know exactly what Garvaghy Road means to people, and youāve chosen to instigate and push for this anyway.
Hundreds of Orange parades happen across NI every year. One went through Magherafelt, a predominantly Catholic town as you well know, only days ago without issue. So spare us the absolute tripe about Catholics and nationalists being unreasonable. Stop using Garvaghy Road as fodder for your hateful sectarian PR narrative.
Thereās an alternative route in the same area, where Catholics live too. But you keep pushing for Garvaghy Road. Of all the roads you could choose, youāve picked the one with the deepest wounds and the greatest potential to cause harm. You are destroying the peace that has been built over decades which took so painfully long to get to.
Catholic residents of Portadown and across NI already have to watch Irish flags and effigies of Irish people burned on hateful sectarian bonfires every year, which I have no doubt some if not all these 35 āChristianā orange men happily attend. Garvaghy residents are still dealing with the not so distant cutting memories of losing loved ones as a result of these parades. To ignore that, then paint the Garvaghy residents and their supporters as unreasonable for objecting to this parade, is shameful.
If the peace collapses, you are to blame
A lot of you from outside Ireland are probably hearing about the Garvaghy Road and wondering what all the fuss is about.
1998 -
After the parade was banned from marching on the Garvaghy Rd, ten Catholic churches were set on fire across Ulster in one night.
In the following days, loyalists attacked Catholic homes, schools and businesses. Multiple houses were petrol-bombed, resulting in the murder of 3 young boys, the Quinn brothers. Their home was targeted because their mother was Catholic.
She mother woke to the sound of her children screaming in fear and the house full of smoke. Sadly the boys, Jason, Mark and Richard, did not make it out.
Garfield Gilmour was sentenced to life in prison after he admitted to driving three members of a UVF unit to the house, but later that was reduced to manslaughter.
Johnny McKay and brothers Raymond and Ivan Parke were named by Gilmour as the killers, but were never charged because of a lack of evidence.
In the days following the murders, loyalist bands defied orders not to play music while marching passed the home of the Quinn boys grandmother.
Tonight, a court overturned an earlier ruling banning the parade from marching on the Garvaghy Road, crowds have gathered and confrontation now seems inevitable with that march set to go ahead early Sunday morning.
The courts allowing this march to go ahead is absolute madness!

šØA chilling scene from the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza: with food supplies completely cut off, desperate civilians are forced to scrape up flour mixed with sand just to keep their families alive.
This is not fiction, this is the horrifying reality of Gaza today, July 18.
This is Hossamās team, and we are sharing his final message :
āIf youāre reading this, it means I have been killedāmost likely targetedāby the Israeli occupation forces. When this all began, I was only 21 years oldāa college student with dreams like anyone else. For past 18 months, I have dedicated every moment of my life to my people. I documented the horrors in northern Gaza minute by minute, determined to show the world the truth they tried to bury. I slept on pavements, in schools, in tentsāanywhere I could. Each day was a battle for survival. I endured hunger for months, yet I never left my peopleās side.
By God, I fulfilled my duty as a journalist. I risked everything to report the truth, and now, I am finally at restāsomething I havenāt known in the past 18 months . I did all this because I believe in the Palestinian cause. I believe this land is ours, and it has been the highest honor of my life to die defending it and serving its people.
I ask you now: do not stop speaking about Gaza. Do not let the world look away. Keep fighting, keep telling our storiesāuntil Palestine is free.ā
ā For the last time, Hossam Shabat, from northern Gaza.
My cousin got her first period while forcibly displaced in a tent in southern Gaza. Her mother spent two days looking for sanitary pads & painkillers amid israelās genocide & blockade of aid supplies. For International Womenās Day, call out feminists who are silent on Palestine.

"Iām there to support Travis. I have no awareness of if Iām being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads."
.@samlansky has such a wondrous way with words, and Iāve loved reading his pieces for over a decade. If youāve ever been around him, you know heās just the best type of person: Curious. Interested. Hilarious. Intriguing and intrigued. I have tRuSt iSSueS when it comes to interviews but I couldnāt be happier that I did this one with him. I was blown away to see quotes from people I adore and admire like Stevie Nicks, Greta Gerwig, Shonda Rhimes, Phoebe Bridgers, Natalie Maines, Kenny Chesney, and Lucian Grainge. I was so happy he spoke to fans Madison and McCall who were so eloquent, loyal, and kind. Iām really reflecting on this year, and all the years that led up to it. Canāt say thank you enough times. š„²

The bitter and twisted irony of Gaza being reported as a graveyard for children underneath the Kingās Speech, in which an unelected old man wears a crown covered in jewels that if sold could pay for critical aid for thousands upon thousands of people
