H.E. @ymahmoudali delivered remarks on the evolving outlook of peace and security in Africa🕊️, while H.E. Amb. @Bankole_Adeoye led discussions on preventive diplomacy, coordination mechanisms and operational effectiveness across AU Liaison Offices and Missions.
The meeting also advanced preparations for the Chairperson’s 1⃣7⃣th High-Level Retreat on the Promotion of Peace, Security and Stability in Africa.

The 5⃣th Joint Retreat of the #AUPSC and the African Peer Review Mechanism (#APRM) has officially begun at Kuriftu African Village in #Burayu, 🇪🇹. Over two days, we focus on governance, early warning, and preventive diplomacy for a peaceful Africa.
H.E. Ato Bereket Fisehatsion Tesfamariam, State Minister of Planning and Development of #Ethiopia and #APRM Focal Point, welcomed delegates. He reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to advancing governance and preventive diplomacy as pillars of continental stability.
H.E. Amb. @Bankole_Adeoye underlined the importance of bridging early warning with early action and preventive diplomacy. The synergy between the #PSC and #APRM offers a unique pathway to address the root causes of conflict.
H.E. Ambassador Hirut Zemene, Permanent Representative of #Ethiopia to the AU and #PSC Chair for April 2026, and H.E. Professor Olive Mugenda, Chairperson of the APR Panel of Eminent Persons, jointly called for institutional coherence. Preventive diplomacy works best when African instruments move together.

Mahmoud Ali Youssouf @ymahmoudali , received the Members of the AU Panel of the Wise at AU Headquarters for an exchange on preventive diplomacy, peace and security reforms, and emerging challenges across the continent. He commended the Panel’s sustained engagements in conflict prevention and mediation, and reaffirmed the Commission’s full support for the Panel’s strategic contribution to sustaining African-led peace and stability

This year’s theme, “A Whole-of-System Approach to Peacebuilding towards Operationalising the Peace, Human Rights, Development & Humanitarian Nexus,” brought together member states and UN departments working on these issues to examine the challenges and prospects of peacebuilding.
