The importance of women’s participation in peace processes is not symbolic.
They are more likely to endure when women participate meaningfully.
Stability is more achievable when women have equal opportunity to shape the future.
And societies are stronger & more resilient when women & girls can live free from fear & violence.

Members of the Smaller Convening held today in London their third follow-up meeting to review the implementation of their Agreement, signed on 30 August in Tripoli. They also continued discussions on issues essential to holding presidential and legislative elections.
During the meeting, chaired by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Hanna Tetteh, participants underscored the critical importance of unifying the judiciary to ensure successful and credible elections whose results are accepted by all. Members of the Smaller Convening reaffirmed their full respect for the neutrality and independence of the judiciary. In this regard, they agreed to broaden consultations with the various components of the judicial community to identify solutions that would enable a unified judicial institution to play its role in ensuring the success of the electoral process.
Participants also reaffirmed their commitment to continuing engagement with all political actors to build support for the 30 August Agreement and pave the way for presidential and parliamentary elections in accordance with what was agreed.
The participants concluded the meeting by agreeing to reconvene in two weeks.
I would like to thank the United Kingdom for hosting today’s meeting of the Smaller Convening in London and for its continued support for the UN-facilitated political process in Libya.
I also commend the Libyan participants for their continued engagement and constructive efforts to advance the implementation of the 30 August Agreement. Sustained dialogue, compromise and inclusive engagement remain essential to moving the process forward and creating the conditions for unified state institutions and national elections.
The United Nations remains committed to supporting a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political process.

From Afghanistan to Syria and beyond, women continue to lead, advocate, and build peace under difficult circumstances. Their determination should be matched by our action. Implementing the #WPS agenda means taking concrete steps that make a tangible difference in women’s lives.
Fifty young men and women from across Libya took part in a three-day Model United Nations (MUN) in Misratah from 24-26 October to mark UN Day. Held in collaboration with the Libyan Debate and Dialogue Association (DDA), the MUN focused on increasing understanding of the mechanisms of the UN and building young people's skills in critical thinking and negotiation.
Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Political, Stephanie Koury joined participants on the second day, briefing the UN Security Council simulation and taking questions from the participants taking part in the [model] UN General Assembly and Economic and Social Council simulations.
"It was a new experience for me in Libya, and one of the most beautiful I’ve ever had," said one male participant. "The most valuable takeaway for me was drafting a position paper; it required me to delve deep and truly understand the stance of the country I was representing before speaking on its behalf."
"During the conference itself, I learned to listen attentively, respond with composure and diplomacy, and advocate for a position, even when it differed from my own personal views. I also had the chance to meet young people from various Libyan cities, which allowed me to see challenges and crises from entirely new perspectives," he added.
