One thing about working on victim-centered true crime stories is people ask what’s the point? I want you to listen to something like Mary Shotwell Little’s story and see a bit of who she was. And I want that to happen over and over until her name, her story, is remembered
@Catch_LISK I saw your post on Peaches and was thinking about how little is still said about her. The same with Cherries and the Lattingtown/Nassau County Jane Doe. The silence about them is frustrating.
Since I was on here last, I ended my job in academia and started a podcast about missing and unidentified women called she goes by Jane. It’s been such a huge life transition so far, but our listeners are wonderful and all of our guests have been so generous with their support
and used it as a table decoration for Mary’s bridal shower.
I’ll never pretend that telling true crime stories isn’t complicated ethically, but I hope through my work we see who we’ve lost and not just what happened to them.
Mary will be missing for 58 years in October.
Next week I’m talking about Mary Shotwell Little on the “she goes by Jane”podcast. When she was in high school, Mary was the mascot and dressed up as Millie the Mustang. Not long before Mary disappeared, her friend borrowed the Millie head from the then current mascot…

And even as a writer I'll never have the words to say how honored I've been to watch other women lend their incredible talents and hearts to this project. I'm thankful to do this work and grateful to do it alongside them.
In news I still can't believe I get to share: there is now a documentary abt my work honoring missing & unidentified women, She, featuring @TheKateMulgrew as narrator and w/ @ravengoodwin & @TheRealCocoJ giving voice to my poems, bringing this important issue to a wider audience
She's opening song "Jane" is by @StephanieQuayle I remember listening to the first version of this song and weeping in heartache over all the women we've lost and continue to lose https://t.co/V3q8dfEcV5
