Attending the Westminster Commission on Legal Aid today discussing criminal legal aid. Enjoying hearing frontline practitioners share their experience of system problems pre-covid and exacerbated by it. Change is so needed for fairer access to justice @APPGLegalAid #WeAreLegalAid
More #FakeLaw from @pritipatel’s fundamentally dishonest Home Office.
“Convicted foreign criminals” have absolutely *NOTHING* to do with the asylum system.
The @ukhomeoffice is spreading false information and should immediately issue a correction and an apology.
I thought I’d explain what happened today because I’m absolutely exhausted and tbh I think a light needs to be shone on this. Especially given so many people like me seem to experience the same thing.
We condemn a Home Office video referring to immigration lawyers who provide legal advice to migrants as ‘activist lawyers’.
Solicitors advise their clients on *their rights under the laws created by parliament*

Really enjoyed tonight’s #YLMC2020 talk, glad to hear from so many inspiring panellists and feel very determined to contribute towards future, very needed, change. Also, @EssexBarrister’s book is one I’ll defo read once exams are done! @YLALawyers#YoungLawyersMakingChange

Today is the first week down of exams! Three out of eight completed which feels great. Now, after a little well-needed break, onto the next couple featuring some lovely cards off my parents and @miss_clt ❤️
The backlog in the Crown Court - caused by government cuts - is so great that the MoJ intends to restrict the right to jury trial and force legal professionals to work evenings and weekends for free.
This populist gesture will simply funnel even more cases into that backlog.
He’s threatening to remove the right to jury trial to deal with a court backlog caused by his own government’s cuts to the courts.
A two-year maximum sentence for assaults that don’t cause injury will not make any emergency worker any safer, and will only increase that backlog.
Completed my first law essay last week. Such a different experience to the essays I wrote for my undergraduate degree but I’m happy with my submission! Now I just have to focus on revisision..for eight exams😅
