As part of preparations for the Buganda Kingdom Environment Day celebrations, subjects of His Majesty the Kabaka led by Minister for Environment Oweek. Mariam Mayanja carried out a clean-up exercise at the Kabaka’s Lake in Ndeeba as a sign to promote environmental conservation.
"Even if you are born and bred here, gone to school here, and did everything here... although they say 'Ugandan by birth,' it doesn't mean that you automatically are.
Citizenship is of different types here.
There is citizenship by birth. This means your father, your mother, are Ugandans, or at least one of them, or one of your grandparents is a Ugandan. That's when they refer to you as a citizen by birth.
Citizen by birth is when you are born to either both your parents as Ugandans, or one of them, or one of the grandparents.
Then there is citizenship by registration. These are the others who register after a long stay, acquiring it due to marriage or due to naturalization. So we have those types of citizenship.
So now, in Uganda, even if you are born here and have done everything here, even if you spoke Luganda better than the Kabaka of Buganda, knowing the *sokos* and *ngeros*, you will not become a Ugandan if your parents are not Ugandans.
If both your parents are non-Ugandans, you will remain a non-Ugandan for as long as you do not have any of your parents being a Ugandan. That is what happens here. The law is not automatic."
Simon Peter Mundeyi, Spokesperson Ministry of Internal Affairs addressing a Journalist
Credit where it’s due!
Yesterday, comrade @joshjeje2 and I posted about a dangerous manhole along Buganda Road and tagged KCCA Executive Director @Buzeki_Sharifah requesting urgent action before someone got hurt. Today, the manhole has already been fixed. 🙏👏
Dear @KagutaMuseveni, this is exactly the kind of leadership Ugandans need. Proactive, responsive, and committed to public safety. Hajjati Buzeki deserves recognition, and I pray she is considered for even bigger responsibilities in ministries like Health or Works.
If we had more leaders like her, everything in the system would be in order, and perhaps we wouldn’t even have political prisoners because governance would be fair and accountable.
Thank you for setting the standard for accountable leadership! 🇺🇬
Today’s Empango celebrations carry a heavy heart for Bunyoro-Kitara. While our neighbors in Buganda fiercely rallied to restore their Kabaka’s health, our own Omukama has stayed out of the public eye for over five years with heartbreakingly little intervention.
Without a parliament and stripped of direction, the kingdom’s administration is run on the whims of a few, leaving a once-great empire adrift and neglected.
This milestone demands a deep, painful reflection- Okweteera mu kifuba. We must look within, beat our chests, and refuse to let the flame of Kitara be extinguished by administrative mess and silence.
This day must transform from a passive commemoration into a passionate wake-up call to demand proper medical dignity for our King, strict accountability from our leaders, and the restoration of our kingdom’s rightful honor.

*Kabaka’s Lake Clean-Up: Restoring Urban Water Resources During Buganda Environment Week*
As part of Buganda Environment Week commemorating World Environment Day, the Kingdom of Buganda led a community clean-up of Kabaka’s Lake. Dug in 1880 under Kabaka Mwanga II, it remains the largest man-made lake in East Africa and a key cultural landmark for the Kingdom.
Youth groups, community leaders, residents, and Kingdom officials joined hands to remove plastics, water hyacinth, and solid waste choking the lake.
Why urban water resources like Kabaka’s Lake matter:
1. *Flood control*: Clean, un-silted lakes and wetlands absorb excess rainwater. This reduces flooding in Lubaga, Kampala, and surrounding areas during heavy rains.
2. *Water security*: Healthy urban water bodies recharge groundwater and improve water quality for communities downstream.
3. *Biodiversity*: Restoring the lake revives habitat for fish, birds, and aquatic plants that are part of Buganda’s natural heritage.
4. *Public health*: Removing waste cuts breeding grounds for mosquitoes and reduces waterborne diseases in nearby communities.
5. *Culture & livelihoods*: A clean Kabaka’s Lake honors Buganda history and supports eco-tourism, fishing, and recreation for future generations.
*Finale Event*
Buganda Environment Day will climax at *Mother Kevin College, Mabira on 12/6/2026*.

🚨UPDATE: Ms. Babirye Lydia Sengendo a daughter to the former prime minister (Katikkiro) of Buganda Oweki. JB Walusimbi was kidnapped on 04/0/2026
The kidnappers reportedly asked for the ransom of 19 million Uganda shillings roughly equivalent to $5000. The relatives and friends manahed to mobilise half of that money and sent it to the kidnappers while they look for the balance. But the kidnappers killed her and dumped the body around Kakiri in Wakiso.
This is reportedly the second kidnap and murder in the space of two weeks in Entebbe area. Something must done, I implore security operatives to investigate these cases to the bonemarrow. I also urge the public to stay vigilant and alert, tomala galinya taxi. Most kidnaps have happened in taxis.
It is not clear yet whether the kidnappers were known to her or she was just a mere random victim of kidnappers.
The banyarwanda issue is somehow synonymous with the Israeli!
They settled mainly in buganda coz some regions couldn't stand them.
When these guys came into power, they decided 2 consolidate & get entrenched at d expense of indigenous natives.
D so called hatred is a reactionary!
