Sometimes, the best ideas are already sitting in your own offices they just need a platform.
Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) recently did something worth celebrating and worth replicating organizing an internal hackathon (Hackathon Event-2082), NEA invited its own employees to bring ideas to the table.
The result? 27 proposals from within the organization, collectively shaping what is now being developed as NEA AI Sathi , AI-powered system designed to modernize customer service, streamline administration, support data-driven decision making, and eventually assist in load management and demand forecasting.
Rather than outsourcing innovation, NEA tapped into the talent it already had people who understand the organization's real problems from the inside. They created a structured space for those people to think, collaborate, and propose solutions using emerging technologies like AI.
This is exactly the kind of institutional culture that government organizations in Nepal need to embrace:
- Trust your in-house talent
- Host hackathons to unlock grassroots innovation
- Use AI and emerging tech as tools to solve real, local problems
- Build institutional ownership of digital transformation
Sometimes, the best ideas are already sitting in your own offices they just need a platform.
May others follow.
