Defense Minister Yitzhak Rabin ordered the IDF to stop using bullets on Palestinian protesters including children and instead break their bones with hammers, batons and fists.
The goal wasn’t to kill… it was to maim and terrorize so they could never protest again.
This footage shows exactly what that policy looked like on the ground.
Over 1,500 Palestinian children had their bones deliberately broken that year alone under this directive.
Thousands more were beaten across the First Intifada.
Rabin later became Prime Minister and won the Nobel Peace Prize.
The policy was real.
The orders were documented.
The footage exists.

رمزي. قابلته مرّة واحدة، لدقائق. لكن لِمَ دمعت عيني عندما ضربتني صورته، الآن، شهيداً! حبيبي يا رمزي. آنذاك، في وسط الشارع، لحظة المغادرة، أخبرني فجأة أنّ شقيقه استشهد في الحرب. كأنّه لا يريدني أن أغادر مِن غير أن أعرف "مكانته". إنّه أخ شهيد. عدت واقتربت منه، تأمّلت وجهه، قبّلته في جبينه وقلت له: "هيدي كرماله مش كرمالك". ابتسمنا. دلّني على مكان الضريح وطلب أن أزوره وأقرأ الفاتحة. سلام يا رمزي، يا "ضيعاوي" أصيل. كان ابن قرية. ستعرف ذلك مباشرة إن قابلته ولو مرّة، ففيه مِن طيب ريحها، وشيء مِن ترابها في مُحيّاه... وها قد نزف دمه فوق ترابها.
أثناء وقوفنا، مرّ أحد الشبّان، أعرفه، فانضم إلى وقفتنا. مدحه رمزي أمامي وربت على كتفه: "بقي هون كل الحرب". لاحقاً، عرفت مِن ذاك الشاب أنّ رمزي أيضاً "بقي هون كلّ الحرب". وأضاف عنه: "رمزي بيعجبك، جدع". هذا ما علق في بالي.
رمزي، عرفت أنّه كان في القرية أثناء الحرب. كانت خالية إلا مِن قلّة. كان ابن قرية، مقاتلاً. كيف لقلبي أن ينقبض حزناً لرحيل شخص لم أقابله إلا مرّة واحدة ولدقائق! لم أعد أحصي عدد الذين عرفتهم ورحلوا. كما لو أن الاعتياد اللعين أصابني. لكن فجأة، رمزي، فيهتز وجداني. ما الذي فيه هذا الملتحق بالقافلة! كيمياء؟ طاقة؟ روح؟ لا أعرف. ما أعرفه أنّ فيه تلك "المقبوليّة" العالية. ستقبله مباشرة. يذكّرني بالحديث المأثور عن المؤمن، أنّه "هشّ بشّ". وفي آخر أنّه: "هيّن ليّن قريب سهل". رمزي فيه ضمير. توافق ما عرفته عنه لاحقاً مع أوّل انطباع لي عن "طينته". عموماً، لقد غادر عالمنا الشائك الآن، عالم الزيف، عالم ما بعد الحقيقة، عالم الإعلام الحديث والدعاية التي تصيغ قوالب التفكير كيفما شاء صانعوها.
رمزي، ابن قرية صريفا العامليّة، ذاك الشاب الودود الذي رأيته مرّة، استشهد. أتذكّر كيف نادى صديقه علي ليخبره أنّي هنا. جاء صديقه وتشاركنا الحديث لدقائق. ليتني بقيت أطول. ذكر لي أحدهم صفة كانت فيه، وشدّد عليها، هي "النخوة". تلك الصفة تكاد تنقرض مِن عالمنا. الجميع اليوم يتحدثون عن شجاعته. قالوا إنّه جال على الكثير مِن القرى، مقاتلاً، ومنها قرى المواجهة الأماميّة على امتداد فصول الحرب. أصيب مرّة. صار جريحاً. وبالكاد تعافى حتى عاد إلى جهاده. صار الآن شهيداً. سأذهب إلى ضريحه يوماً وأقرأ له الفاتحة. لن أنسى أن أمرّ على ضريح شقيقه كما طلب منّي. سنحمل دمك يا رمزي في أعناقنا، وسيل دماء من سبقك ومَن سيلحق بك. سنباهي بكم الدنيا. سنخبر أولادنا عنكم، كم كنتم وحدكم، يا لغربتكم. يا لوحشتكم. سنحكي لهم كيف كان عالمنا يتفكّك وكنتم الثابت فيه. سنحكي يا رمزي لطفلك، الذي رحلت قبل ولادته، عمّن كان والده. قاتلتم ولم تركعوا. طوال هذه الحرب وأنا أسأل نفسي: كيف تقاتلون! أهذه حرب! كل شيء يقول إنّ عليكم أن تفنوا، أو ألا تتنفسوا، لكنكم واجهتم. الحسين إمامكم. سنحمل دمكم الثقيل. وذات يوم، وإن طال موعده، سيعود ذكركم يوم يفنى عدوكم. سترتفع وجوهكم عند مداخل قراكم وفي وجه العالم. أنتم النبات الطبيعي لهذه الأرض. أنتم هذه الأرض. سنحمل دمكم. حبيبي يا رمزي...

On March 14, Israel publicly announced an official campaign targeting Lebanese ambulance services and first responders, effectively acknowledging a policy that had already been carried out through multiple massacres in the preceding days.

This announcement, and the statements that have since followed it, must be read against a long and documented historical pattern in which Israeli 'operations' in Lebanon have repeatedly and intentionally struck ambulances, medical convoys, civil defense teams, and first responders, a pattern that stretches across decades of Israeli attacks and reflects a broader, systemic Israeli approach; during the 1978 Operation Litani and especially the 1982 invasion of Lebanon, Lebanese hospitals, Red Cross convoys, and emergency responders were repeatedly targeted by Israeli forces, establishing an early and consequential pattern.

In April 1996, during Operation Grapes of Wrath, Israeli attacks culminated in the Qana massacre, where those seeking refuge in a UN compound were killed while medical teams struggled to reach the wounded under continued Israeli fire; the 2006 war further deepened this record, with direct Israeli strikes on clearly marked Red Cross ambulances, including the July 23, 2006 attack on a convoy in Qana that wounded paramedics and destroyed emergency vehicles, alongside repeated incidents in which rescue workers reported secondary strikes after arriving at impact sites, a pattern we now refer to as “double-tap” attacks which are intended to kill any survivors and ensure more casualties; in the years since, and particularly during the recent 2023–2026 aggression, at least 55 Lebanese health workers have been killed to date, countless ambulances destroyed, and medical facilities damaged across southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley, reinforcing a continuity that points to an open Israeli policy of targeting anyone providing aid.

What emerges from this record is a consistent and brutal reality of Israel targeting first responders as a form of coercive pressure on Lebanese society at large, namely the Resistance community. Israel's destruction of medical and emergency infrastructure in Lebanon is meant to reshape the conditions under which we live and seek safety; it is an attempt to instill fear into the healthcare systems we access that sustain life, and to ensure that our communities cannot recover.

Despite this, our medical workers refuse to abandon their humanitarian duties, even under the barbaric conditions that Israel has imposed upon them. This is a part of our resistance, and why Israel will not succeed in breaking the will of our people or our capacity to protect each other.

في مثل هذا اليوم من أيّام أيّار المجيد عام 2000، حرّر الجنوبيّون المعتقلين في سجن الخيام. في مثل هذا اليوم فرّ الإسرائيلي وذيله بين فخذيه بفضل بأس المقاومين وتضحياتهم وأهلهم. فرّ الإسرائيلي وفرّ معه عملاؤه.

عيد المقاومة والتحرير هو بالنسبة للجنوبيين يوم لبنان الأكبر. يومٌ حفر في تاريخهم وشكّل مستقبلهم لأجيال. هو يومٌ هزموا فيه الإسرائيلي وحرّروا أرض آبائهم وأجدادهم. بدماءهم.

في تاريخ الأوطان أيّامٌ عِظام لا يمحوها حدثٌ، مهما كبر، من ذاكرة الوطن. تلك الأيّام تصوّب بوصلة الأوطان في الشدائد والملمّات وتصبح أكثر أهمّية في اللحظات العصيبة. إلّا في لبنان.

يستكثرون على الجنوبيين عيدهم، ذلك العيد الذي ما بلعه هؤلاء يوماً. هؤلاء أصلاً ما استساغوا المقاومة يوماً وعلقت في حناجرهم كيف لا وهي ما يقف بينهم وبين حلم لهم سقط في في 6 شباط 1984.

اليوم، في غمرة النزوح والألم والبطولة والفداء والبذل والبأس والتضحيات العظام، يأتي هؤلاء ليسخروا من العيد، عيد المقاومة والتحرير، ذلك النجم الذي يهتدي به الجنوبيّون في المدلهمّات.

من يستكثر على الجنوبيين عيدهم اليوم هم خلقٌ يُشبهون كلّ شيء إلّا البشر.

سيبقى أيّار مجيداً في عين كلّ شريف رغماً عن أنف أراذل الأرض. وسيحيي الجنوبيّون عيدهم في أرضهم، كرام أعزّاء، طال الزمانُ أم قصر. من كان أبناؤه كأبناء الجنوبيين لن يستعصي عليه تحرير أرض.
