A Dutch court has sentenced muslim father Khaled al Najjar in absentia to 30 years in prison after he fled to Syria, while his sons, Muhanad and Mohamed, were each sentenced to 20 years for their roles in the 2024 "honor killing" of 18-year-old Ryan al Najjar.

The court found that Ryan was bound and gagged with 18 meters of duct tape before being thrown alive into a shallow pool in the Oostvaardersplassen nature reserve, where she drowned.
