Sorry, there's been a label shift in the original plot I made above. The corrected plot is below. I.e., Ultra = Max and so on. The relative comparisons between models is still correct. (Afaik Ultra runs Max with 4 subagents mainly for speedups)
The numbers come from the Artificial Analysis Coding Agent Index as mentioned in the chart. And here's the source link: https://t.co/bqhP7M3ouu
Import is now available in the Codex!
Existing Codex users can now access the Claude Code / Cowork import tool directly through the command palette (vs prior only in Settings page).
Open the command palette with Cmd+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows).
If you want to try our sol with your existing configs just try this out
Thank you to the 7M active users who are now using Codex and ChatGPT Work.
We have added a banked reset to everyone's account to celebrate the milestone. You can apply the reset in the desktop app or on web and it will replenish the weekly usage for you.
Have fun out there.
Updates for Codex and ChatGPT Work users. No nerfing, only good stuff!
- We have landed inference optimizations and are passing down savings to all the subscriptions for GPT-5.6 Sol. That should result in around 10% more usage on its own.
- We noticed that by changing the context size limit in the product to 372k for GPT-5.6 Sol, up from 272k for GPT-5.5, it resulted in more usage being charged than intended. We have reverted to 272k and will work to roll back out to 372k in the days to come. You should notice that usage drains significantly less after this change.
- To understand where the extra usage was coming from, we ran some experiments where reasoning efforts were changed (referred to as juice values under the hood) and have reverted this.
- There is slightly more usage of multi-agent than intended in high and xhigh reasoning effort, we are fixing this going forward. Also fixing a small other thing we noticed with auto-review where we can be more efficient.
And we continue to have the 5h limit temporarily not apply. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
Rest assured that GPT 5.6 Sol will stay in the ChatGPT subscription you pay for. Including Go, Plus and Pro subscriptions. At least until we ship an even better model.
Added a banked reset to 500k users of ChatGPT Work and Codex.
What’s been happening:
- Just released the ability to use a banked reset from web and mobile. Before today you could only do it in the desktop app
- Had an issue where less than 10% of users who used a banked reset and it didn’t actually reset. This was during a 2 hour window.
- It was hard to find all the exact users where it didn’t apply, so instead granted a banked reset to everyone who pressed the reset button in that 2 hour window. This also gives us the opportunity to validate the new infra ahead of tomorrow
Tomorrow we will celebrate our 7M active users milestone and grant the first banked reset across all of our ChatGPT Work and Codex users.
We will also release a bunch of updates to the desktop app, addressing a ton of your feedback.
Talk soon
Morning. The last 48 hours of Codex and ChatGPT Work have been intense! Three important updates:
- Temporarily removing the 5 hour usage limit restriction for all Plus, Business and Pro plans
- Rolling out changes that will make GPT 5.6 Sol more efficient across the board and that will be reflected in less usage being used so that it can take you further. Exact impact to be quantified and shared
- We hit 6M active users, and are landing a usage reset in the next hour
Go do things
Fable 5 CANNOT be removed from Anthropic subscriptions.
The new Artificial Analysis Coding Index shows exactly why.
Without Fable 5, Anthropic's best subscription model is Opus 4.8. It loses to GPT 5.6.
It even loses to GPT 5.5. The OLD GPT.
At that point there is no reason to pay for Claude. None.
Fable 5 is not a perk.
It is the entire case for the subscription.
Introducing ChatGPT Work, a new agent in ChatGPT powered by Codex and GPT-5.6.
It can take action across your apps and files, stay with a project for hours if needed, and turn a goal into finished work.
It’s a whole new way to get work done.
On Agents' Last Exam, GPT‑5.6 Sol sets a new high of 53.6, eclipsing Claude Fable 5 (adaptive) by 13.1 points.
At medium reasoning, it beats Fable 5 by 11.4 points at roughly one-quarter the estimated cost. GPT‑5.6 Terra and Luna also outperforms Fable 5 at around one-sixteenth the cost.
I helped make a new model! This one was trained in my harness so I put extra care into it.
I've been using it to write lots of code, and it's really good! Check it out:
