Hon’ble Union Minister of Education, Shri @dpradhanbjp, launched the School Management Committee (SMC) Guidelines 2026 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
Addressing the gathering, he highlighted that the Guidelines will play a pivotal role in translating the vision of #NEP2020 into action across the country’s schools, while strengthening community participation and shared responsibility in education. He called for SMCs to evolve into a people’s movement for improving educational outcomes.
The event was attended by Shri Ashish Sood, Education Minister, Government of NCT of Delhi; Shri Gajender Yadav, Minister of School Education, Government of Chhattisgarh.
Shri Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Department of School Education & Literacy; Shri Ashok Kumar Meena, Secretary, Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation; Smt. Archana S. Awasthi, Additional Secretary, Department of School Education & Literacy, along with other senior officials were also present. The meeting was virtually attended by several State Education Ministers.

Today, Secretary @sanjayjavin, Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSEL), Ministry of Education, inaugurated “Reading India Samvāad 2026 – India Reads, India Leads”, a two-day National Leadership Dialogue and Roundtable organised at the New Delhi World Book Fair (NDWBF) 2026, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
Secretary, DoSEL emphasized the influence of reading, observing that our identity and expression are shaped by what we read. He further highlighted that National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 places strong emphasis on learning in the mother tongue and stressed the need to prioritize the development of multilingual content.
Smt. Archana Sharma Awasthi, Additional Secretary, Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSEL), Ministry of Education highlighted the benefits of building reading habits and developing reading with comprehension.
Shri Yuvraj Malik, Director, National Book Trust (NBT) focused that reading shapes vision and perspective.
Reading India Samvāad 2026 serves as a national platform to advance a reading nation through policy, technology, and collective accountability, aligned with NEP 2020 and Viksit Bharat@2047.
