It doesn't matter if it happened three years ago or yesterday, it will never be right for a person who has a history of violence against Transwomen to portray a Transwoman and her story.

FORMER BLUE EAGLE SPEAKS UP 🗣️
“I do feel the need to post this after seeing a ton of false narratives blasted online. As someone who experienced that training camp during my time with ADMU that they also just went through as well, I understand the gravity of the training itself and what we willingly put ourselves through in hopes to boost conditioning ahead of the season and become closer as a team. There are a few things I’d like to address though based on other social media posts.
1. There is absolutely no way that this had anything to do with “initiation”. The team goes there for the sole purpose of conditioning, getting stronger, becoming a closer team due to the hardships faced during that specific beach training. Between working your ass off on that beach and a little bit of time to rest and eat there is no time to even think of doing any kind of initiation there. Each player is so tired from the work they put in the whole day that they wouldn’t even have enough energy to do something like that. Those players love each other and wouldn’t put each other in an initiation situation like that where there could be a grave outcome that way.
2. Don’t take those interview clips from some of my previous teammates out of context and try to spin your own story out of it for content. Yes, that was probably the most physically and mentally draining training that I’ve ever experienced but there was nothing done to us that would put us in immediate danger. So to the people spreading news that the players were forced to wear weights on their feet in the water, check your source first because I highly doubt the coaching staff would allow or even think to do that.
Allow the families, teammates, coaches, and ADMU community to grieve and let the investigation take its course based on facts before spreading fake narratives and adding fuel to the fire. The only people there are the team and coaches and staff. They are the ones who know the truth so let’s let things take their natural course before making horrid accusations.”

I will never understand why some people, with no journalistic or investigative purpose whatsoever, choose to photograph or record others in the midst of tragedy or vulnerability just to post it online for attention. Turning someone’s worst moment into your content is shameful.
There are no words that can truly ease a loss like this. 💔
The Ateneo community keeps Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili, along with their loved ones, in our thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace.
STOP SPREADING PICTURES OF THE INCIDENT!!! RESPECT THE ATHLETES & THEIR GRIEVING FAMILIES & TEAMMATES!!!
