@solar_dragon24@pranklinmyboy Some of us like to think we've evolved as a people in 250 years. We realized slavery was bad, shitting in buckets was bad, hey how are you liking electricity and the Internet? Just because they did it doesn't mean we should.
It's irrelevant whether your interpretation of your book of mythology about your magic sky friend supports or opposes public executions.
It's irrelevant that he's in a wheelchair, it's a red herring. The discussion is the same if he has the body of prime Henry Cavill.
An execution shouldn’t be a live-streamed spectacle. The focus should be on justice for the victims and their families, not turning an execution into entertainment. Their pain deserves respect, not a public show.
@ImJacksRage Facts don't care about your feelings. It's well established that the death penalty doesn't serve as a deterrence. Additionally, in this instance (and many other mass shootings) notoriety and attention is what they want. There's a reason the news often omits their name.
@ImJacksRage You are making the error of thinking that this serves as a deterrence in any way, instead of performative macho bullshit and/or bloodlust masquerading as "justice".
@RoccosGhost@jemelehill Again the underlying detail is important and reducing both to "video of a death" is oversimplifying the issue. Officer body cam footage, including shootings, is about transparency and due process. Live-streaming an execution is about performative macho bullshit and
@RoccosGhost@jemelehill It turns out you can make all kinds of things sound reasonable if you completely ignore all nuance and relevant information. That's textbook bad-faith arguing. They're not the same, there are clear non-arbitrary differences at play.
@femacampaunt Yeah we also used to think we could own people, shit in buckets, and treat diseases like the fever, flu, and headaches with mercury chloride. Then we grew up as a society, learned, and got better. But this is a clear regression.
@AaronNoga40580 You fundamentally fail to understand the dynamics at play. People who commit acts like this are messed up enough that they aren't doing the math, or know they're going to die as a result. They want the attention. They want the publicity. This isn't a deterrence in any way.
@BayouHotTakes@jemelehill Live-streaming this isn't transparency. It's performative macho bullshit and/or trying to feed a bloodlust in the public that's alternatively scary and tragic.
It's possible to be against the death penalty, and also think live-streaming it is even worse.
@RoccosGhost@jemelehill Comparing preserving body footage of police shootings and live-streaming an execution for military treason, that's apples and rock chunks. We've already gone through the due process to determine his guilt, whereas police shooting footage exists specifically to aid due process.
