Ladakh’s Ancient Mascoid
Nestled along the highway between Shernos and Ik on the road to Hanle, lies a postcard from the past. An extraordinary archaeological treasure, one of the largest known Mascoid petroglyphs in the region.

Bridge over Hanle River
Neelam and me ventured to the bridge in order to capture the Milky Way turning around the zenith.
Zodiacal Light was at its peak, just before dawn. Jupiter rising towards the east, in the brightest portion of 'False Dawn'.

There is Zodiacal Light, Jupiter, Beehive cluster, and a meteor burnt by, in this picture.
We are at the Hanle Star Party, where such a phenomenon, faint light from the Solar System can be seen easily.

Four BLINDING lights installed on NH48, Gurugram, northbound side. Facing towards drivers eyes. Cant see anything ahead, pedestrian, cyclists, two dividers, especially in smog. Accident waiting to happen!
*Agastya at the HDSR Star Party*
Agastya, or Canopus is the second brightest star in the sky. It is also know as the 'Rishi of the South'. The declination of Agastya is -51° 42', and from the latitude of Hanle (~33°) it appears just about ~5° above the southern horizon.
*Venus Rises at the Star Party*
On the last night of the HDSR Star Party at about 3am, Neelam set out with her Camera and Tripod. She clicked several sequences at various locations, generally favouring the eastern direction.
Attended the fantastic Hanle Dark Sky Reserve Star Party long with Neelam. Three days of several large telescopes and Bortle 1 dark skies. Our 16-inch Aperture Telescope, a Dobsonian performed beautifully, showed us many deep sky objects in great detail and brightness.
Venus & Kritika star cluster, this evening shot from Palchan, Manali.
What is not so prominent, and hardly noticed elsewhere too - the conjunction of Venus & Uranus. On magnifying the original image, Uranus can be seen just to the left of bright Venus.
*Ratnari, Himalaya Little Planet*
I really love to make Little Planet Panoramas with star trails in the sky. This one is made at a hill side between Ratnari and Karena Peak, in December 2021.
