Spoke at a board presentation today - debated on suit or no suit. Decided on black jeans, white shoes and a collared shirt. I want to represent me - and be me when I’m presenting.
When I was up there - I was more comfortable and nailed the preso. Not saying because of what I dressed in, but by being genuine and who I am.
Lesson here? Be yourself. Don’t always conform to what others do. It’s awesome to be you, to be human, to express yourself and share your experiences. To laugh, to joke, to turn a boring presentation into something someone will remember.
When I’m presenting to execs, Im goofy, I share stories and experiences, and I keep it fun and entertaining the whole time.
I’m not trying to be just another person in the meeting - I’m trying to move them. I’m focused on them learning something, and for it to resonate and ultimately to make changes or inform to make things better.
If someone isn’t motivated to change - they won’t.
Please share/RT: I'm working on a story about mental health in the cybersecurity industry.
