Check out this excellent review on the role of alloBMT in aplastic anemia | @AjHematology
This is a timely and comprehensive review summarizing the most recent evidence 🙌🏽
Great writing as always, @Haemophage

Lots of nuances in text around recommendations above, e.g. post-ASCT maintenance and what we'd actually recommend for our own patients (and why).

The chemotherapy-free regimen blinatumomab and ponatinib is associated with significantly improved PFS and OS compared to Hyper-CVAD with ponatinib, with less non-relapse morality and a reduced reliance on allo-SCT in Ph+ ALL.

Pretty neat @AjHematology article!
By now, those who follow myeloma field know that we differentiate true EMD vs paraskeletal (PS) dz.
But: if PS plasmacytomas at Dx, >2x relative risk of true EMD later in #MMsm journey vs if not...
Causation or function of tumor bio unclear.
Out in @AjHematology.
Obesity, TP53 VAF of 45% or more and WBC>50,000 are key risk factors for relapse after frontline blinatumomab based therapy in Ph-neg B-ALL. Post relapse outcomes are dismal, with a median OS of 7 months.

A study finds increased use of prescription drugs such as treatments for anemia like iron supplements, Vit. B12, and folic acid, and antibiotics for recurrent infections 18 months before diagnosis of some indolent hematologic malignancies whose symptoms mimic benign medical conditions. The findings underline the necessity for increasing awareness for markers of hematologic malignancies in primary care to avoid unnecessary delays in diagnosis and treatment and to avoid the increased risk of morbidity.

Thanks @AjHematology for featuring US #MMsm Consortium work.
Delayed responses most likely if MR by D30 (i.e., on way to ≥PR) or if SD but not lymphopenic. If so, continued bsAb therapy may be more worth the infxn risks!
Airborne pollutants are elevated in the Bronx, New York and correlate with worse #MDS outcomes. Exposure to similar pollutants leads to inflammation in vivo.

Despite promising phase-2 results, phase-3 Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) pain trials failed to meet clinical endpoints. We show time-to-crisis-resolution is influenced by site, prior ED use and surgery history. It’s time to redefine outcomes in SCD-VOE trials.

A marked difference in post-transplant survival was linked to platelet counts. Thrombocytopenia was more frequent after CBT (39%) than unrelated BMT (17%) on day 50. By day 100, both groups had similar rates (11%), suggesting the disparity was transient. https://t.co/AnMuMBRg0W
Large multicenter retrospective analysis indicating that the incorporation of caplacizumab into treatment of immune TTP in the ICU improves the ICU survival. Overall ICU survival was high.
