คำว่า Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother มาจากคำพระวจนะของศาสดามูฮัมหมัด
A person came to the messenger of Allah and asked who amongst the people is most deserving of my good treatment? He said: Your mother, again your mother, again your mother, then your father, then your nearest relatives according to the order (of nearness).
i’m genuinely sad for the people who will watch project hail mary at home when it gets a digital release because this is exactly the kind of movie you NEED to experience in a movie theater. this is what they’re made for. this was breathtaking
Sure, your eyes aren’t tricking you. That clip looks better than the new trailer, and the reason has nothing to do with talent. The VFX supervisor on Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014? Jerome Chen. The VFX supervisor on Brand New Day? Also Jerome Chen. Same person. Completely different system around him.
In 2014, Chen had 50 effects artists at Sony Imageworks, the largest VFX crew the studio had ever put on a single project. They handled about 1,000 of the film’s 1,600 VFX shots on a $255 million budget. The crew shot on real film (not digital), on location in actual New York City, scanned Times Square with 36,000 photographs of over 100 billboards, and built physical lighting rigs on set so the CGI would match the real world.
Now look at how Marvel makes Spider-Man movies. No Way Home had 2,500 VFX shots spread across 12 studios and about 3,000 artists. The budget was $200 million, $55 million less than TASM2 despite having 56% more VFX shots. Digital Domain, one of the VFX vendors, was delivering final shots days before the December 17, 2021, release. They kept reworking shots into mid-January, after the movie was already in theaters.
Zoom out, and the math gets worse. Marvel released 6 films between 2008 and 2012. From 2023 to 2025, they pushed out 7 films and 7 TV shows. The Hollywood union representing VFX workers reported that Marvel pays artists about 20% below industry average and staffs one person where other studios hire three. Artists described 64-hour weeks and breakdowns on the job. Then, in February 2025, Technicolor, the parent company of MPC (three-time Oscar winner for Life of Pi, The Jungle Book, and 1917), collapsed almost overnight. 4,500 jobs gone globally. The studio had been actively working on Disney and Paramount films when the lights went out.
Brand New Day has four months before release, and trailers routinely show unfinished shots. But the gap between a 2014 Spider-Man and a 2026 Spider-Man has nothing to do with technology going backwards. The industry has been asked to do three times the work for less money per shot while its biggest studios are going under.
Luffy at the top is a… choice.
I love the character, but he’s extremely simple to write.
He’s a traditionally romantic character with a flat character arc. You can say that he has some development but at his core he’s pretty much the same from day one.
How Oda handles the world getting bent by Luffy’s actions is where the skilled writing comes in, as he spins A LOT of plates to make each action have the appropriate ripples across the world.
Luffy is the force of nature that changes the world. It’s an extremely powerful tool, but him by himself isn’t that hard to nail down. He loves adventure and food and fights for his friends, that’s pretty much it. By being himself and showing the spirit of adventure, he changes the perspectives of people and that in turn completes their arcs to make One Piece so complex.
Someone is going to take this as me saying he’s a bad character, I just know it.
sweeney has done it again.
idk how you people are so distracted by bells and whistles, her entire filmography is like a feminist meta-commentary on female sexualization, intrasexual competition, the male gaze, the hot girl bind, and female rage.
some common themes in her roles:
-eroticization of female suffering
-being punished for being desired
-having her naivete taken advantage of (innocence as a liability)
-futility of attempting to escaping objectification by reclaiming your sexuality as a woman
-stories where the tension doesn't live between whether women have agency or not, but the limitation of one's choices inside a prison that predetermines who and what you can be and how agency is taxed at punitive rates when you're a beautiful/sexualized woman
-her characters almost always live inside a gendered prison where women are either overtly oppressed by the government or religious institutions or are severely constrained by the madonna/whore complex
-her characters are always misunderstood by both men and women by virtue of her reputation/how she presents to the world
-subversive vulnerability (you read her as one thing and punish her for it, only for her to prove that she was uncharitably judged. she's misperceived in high stakes circumstances and punished for it, usually by the time people realize, it's too late. her fate is pre-decided within the confines of a gendered prison. this subverts the genre of empowerment feminism because her vulnerability and suffering never produces redemption. she never wins. she is either destroyed or descends into female rage
i think her career is like a case study on the futility of accepting and rejecting your place in the world as a woman (whether you agree or not). the thesis of her filmography is that there is no empowerment in embracing your sexuality and in attempting to reject it, it's often still forced on you anyway or you're considered "repressed." you might be thinking, well this seems fundamentally at odds with her personal philosophy. I don't think it is.
i think she sees societal structures as inherently punitive against women but she's not willing to lead her life oriented around avoiding them because there is no reward in self denial. if you're already fucked, then you're also liberated. that is, many have and will continue to dismiss her as a big breasted blonde bimbo who appeals to the male gaze.
so? what should she do, just roll over and self immolate in the face of that perception, or refuse to let society indict her own self concept? Do you really need anyone's permission to be a multifaceted human being with something to say?
it adds heaps of complex layers to the sex symbol persona but no one is analyzing it for some reason. drives me fucking crazy.
