⛈️ Another day.. Another Rainy Day on cards in parts of Chennai city and suburbs. After poor June and July, What a month we are having so far!! 💥

Yesterday North & Central #Chennai received good rains while South #Chennai largely missed out. Once again widespread rain is possible for #Chennai today with heavy spells likely in a few places, especially the stretch from South Chennai to Pondy.

Thanks to last 4/5 days of daily thunderstorm activity, Chennai has managed to revive its tally from -36% to -11%👌
Hopefully we can see more such storms and try to bridge the gap. Other surrounding places like Kanchi, Tiruvallur & Chengalpet performance has been dreadful so far ranging from -35% to -70%. Hope they can catch up too in the coming days!!

KTCC (Chennai): 6 on 6 Looks very likely !!!
-------------------------------
There are high chances of rain across KTCC (Chennai) today as well and it will make it 6 consecutive days where at least some part of Chennai has received rain.
As has been the case over the last five days, don't expect an all-day rain event. These will be the usual evening and night thunderstorms, with different parts of the city getting lucky on different days.
Keep an eye on the skies in evening and nights. Not all places will see rain, but some places in KTCC almost certainly will. That's how the convective rains happen. If your places miss today, you will get chance tomorrow.
Catchment areas of Periyar Dam, Valparai and also Cauvery catchment will get good rains today.
💥 First Proper Widespread Rains in Chennai city and suburbs of this season!! Ayapakkam topped with 90 mm followed by 70 mm in Korattur. Entire Chennai city got around 3 cms on average.
⛈️ Next 1 week Chennai - KTC belt will be active..

River Cauvery enters TN border. Water expected to reach Mettur in another 24-36 hours. Hope Mettur fills up fast enough. At this rate, it’ll take about two weeks for water to be released from Mettur.
Last night saw widespread thunderstorms over not only Chennai and suburbs but over many places in the plains of Tamil Nadu. With the Mid Tropospheric circulation persisting off the coast of TN things look good for thunderstorms to continue for the next few days. Today also evening / late night thunderstorms like at many places between Chennai and Delta.
Till 11.30 pm (KTCC) rainfall observed rainfall. What a spell it is turning out to be. It is not over yet. Rains are not over yet. Long rainy spell ahead. Enjoy the rains.
Widespread rains reported across many parts of Chennai last night bringing much needed relief after recent heat.
Good news is that today and tomorrow also look favourable for evening thunderstorms. As the Southwest Monsoon slows down a bit along the west coast conditions become more supportive for thunderstorm development over north Tamil Nadu, including Chennai.
August has begun on a promising note for the city, with rains somewhere in Chennai every day so far. Let's hope this streak continues and more parts of Chennai get good widespread rains in the evenings. 🌧️🤞
