August 18, 2009: Dr. Russell Blaylock quotes Fauci's Nature interview on the swine flu shot.

His point: they are testing one product and planning to give another.

• The trials Fauci describes are without the adjuvant.
• Those tests are on children, pregnant women, and others.
• When asked if the shot people actually get will include the adjuvant, Blaylock says Fauci’s answer is yes.
• Adjuvant, as he defines it, is the strong immune stimulant — and the thing he says causes most of the complications.
• Next question: will they test adjuvants in kids? He quotes Fauci: nobody has really good data on adjuvants in children, and they don’t have time to collect it.
• Then during the test they won’t give kids the adjuvanted flu shot — but when the vaccine is released, children will get shots with adjuvant.

An adjuvant is an extra ingredient in a vaccine that is not the virus/antigen itself. It is there to rev the immune system up so a smaller dose of antigen still produces a strong response.

In plain terms: the antigen is the “this is the flu” signal; the adjuvant is the megaphone. That is how manufacturers can stretch a limited antigen supply into more doses — which is why it came up in 2009 during H1N1.

Common classes include aluminum salts (used for decades in many routine shots) and oil-in-water emulsions such as squalene-based ones (MF59, AS03) that Europe used more in flu shots. In 2009 the U.S. H1N1 trials Fauci was describing were mostly non-adjuvanted; some adjuvanted products were discussed or used abroad. That is the bait-and-switch Blaylock is alleging: test the milder version, ship the boosted one.

Adjuvants can also mean more local reactions (sore arm, fever) and, in debates like this one, more worry about autoimmune or inflammatory effects. That stronger reaction is exactly why Blaylock calls it “the powerful immune stimulant” and ties it to complications. That last part is his medical argument, not a dictionary definition.
