@Esthertimeasthi@JoshuaTCharles (4) the context of Deut 18:10 is talking about witches and séances - evil spirits. That’s what God condemns. He’s not condemning communication with those who are alive in God. Jesus said “ for he is not the God of the dead, but of the living: for all live to him.” Lk 20:38
@Esthertimeasthi@JoshuaTCharles (1) In scripture, Jesus Himself prayed to saints - “prayed to dead people” to use your terms. In Matthew, 17:1-3, on the Mount where the Transfiguration took place - “And behold there appeared to them Moses and Elijah talking with him.” Jesus is communicating with them.
@Esthertimeasthi@JoshuaTCharles (3) I also should mention that some may say that Elijah was not dead. However, if you look at the end of Deuteronomy, (34:5) “ and Moses the servant of the lord, died there, in the land of Moab, by the commandment of the Lord”. Moses was indeed dead.
@Esthertimeasthi@JoshuaTCharles (2) if you look in St. Luke’s version, Luke, 9:31 it says “and they spoke of his decease that he should accomplish in Jerusalem”. They were involved in the very redemption that should be accomplished in Jerusalem. To truly imitate Christ, we should in fact pray to the Saints.
St. Thomas Aquinas, Doctor of the Church (1274)
Opposed by his family in becoming a Dominican, they imprisoned him for 15 months. Taught by St. Albert the Great, and deriving much light from meditations, he was one of the most brilliant intellects in the history of the Church.
