Hi Twitter! You may know me as a culture writer for @KyivIndependent. Since Russia's invasion, I joined Ukraine's Armed Forces and can't write much. But readers keep asking about our wartime culture. So I'll tweet about things that inspire me and my comrades to keep up the fight.

If I had to choose which evil has the power – the newly popular battle-scared killing machine that is Prigozhin & Wanger or the abominate corrupt and incapable regime of Putin & Shoigu – I would choose the latter.

We found Hruden (December) in a half-destroyed house & named him after one tough commander. He’s cuddly, but needs medical attention we can’t provide. But my friend @BulletCatcher_ can get him to Kyiv – can anyone take care of Hruden there? Please DM Ruslan – I’m rarely online.

Hruden, the sickly cat we rescued in Torske, is now fluffy and healthy thanks to Kyiv's Adopt Don't Stop charity. Sadly, he still hasn't found a family. I couldn't adopt him myself (our tabby lady tramp is more than enough for our apt.), but I became his remote guardian.

Nova Kakhovka dam destruction is the worst evil I have witnessed in my lifetime. The Russians are erasing whole ecosystems with no regard for living beings, even on the territories they occupy.

My heart breaks seeing how the animals suffer on the frontlines without being able to help them nearly enough. But I just can’t bare seeing news images of someone’s dogs or cows drowning or wild animals screaming in final agony at a zoo.

After 15 months, on the frontlines we finally met with my girlfriend’s father Svyatoslav, having previously served just 20 km from each other near Kreminna. A retired @ng_ukraine tank squadron tech officer, he joined @TDF on day one and now leads a company. Felt like being home.

Four cold months in Torske and notorious Kreminna forests were my most challenging, back-breaking, but also my proudest. Thanks to all who’ve supported me & my unit. I’m back on rotation in Kyiv oblast and getting my first vacation soon. There’s a heavy price, but we are winning.
