We are strongly appealing to you to recognize that the hijab is not a fashion statement or a cultural accessory, but a religious obligation. We will not tolerate any form of disrespect or discrimination against our female candidates during examinations on the basis of their wearing the hijab.

We have received a report that in Ibadan, at a UTME centre with the code UTME2017/30020010, Muslim candidates wearing hijab were allegedly denied access to the examination hall. This act is unacceptable.

We therefore urge the examination authority to take immediate and decisive action on this matter and to ensure that such an incident does not occur again in the future.
