The Angela Harris Case – When ‘Compassion’ Cripples Justice
Warning this is 😭 and my opinion
Let’s talk about a case that should shake every one of us awake😳
Angela Harris. A woman who walked into a public library in Anchorage and walked out paralyzed — forever.
Why❓
Because we’ve let our public spaces become a battleground between “compassionate” policies and public safety — and safety is losing.
The man who attacked her❓
Corey Ahkivgak.
✔️Not a mystery.
✔️Not a first-time offender.
✔️Not a one-off.
✔️He had a documented pattern of violence.
😳Random attacks on two other women just a month earlier.
➡️A judge ⬅️ found him incompetent to stand trial — and what did we do?
💯We released him.
Back. Into. The. Community.
And just like that, Angela’s life was changed forever.🥹
This isn’t a tragedy.
It’s a predictable outcome.🤔
It’s what happens when libraries — places meant for learning, for kids, for families — become de facto homeless shelters for people with untreated severe mental illness and known violent tendencies.
📉 System failure #1 The Courts.
They knew this man was dangerous. “Incompetent to stand trial” just means he can’t be held accountable — but it doesn’t mean he’s safe.
📉 Failure #2
The Library.
They knew about him.
They had security.
They knew he was threatening other patrons.
They let him stay.
📉 Failure #3
Evidence conveniently gone.
Security footage?
“Not preserved because it wasn’t preserved.”
Really?
Thirty-day retention policy? That’s what you’re hiding behind?
📉 Failure #4
The City’s Defense.Let me break this down. The municipal lawyer argued it would be “too expensive to police all the crazies” running around town.
They blamed resource allocation.
They blamed the contractor.
💥They even had the nerve to suggest that if Angela hadn’t come to the library, maybe she wouldn’t have been hurt.💥
Victim blaming.😡🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
Disgusting.🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
⚠️ But here’s the bigger danger, If the city wins this case, it sets a precedent
1.They can let violent individuals roam public facilities.
2.They can dodge responsibility when people get hurt.
3.They can destroy evidence and pretend it’s just policy.
4.They can say “sorry” with one hand while doing nothing with the other.
This is what happens when public policy becomes a feel-good experiment in “compassion” without consequences.
And the cost❓
💥Angela Harris — a taxpaying citizen — is paralyzed for life.💥
Because the system protected a violent man’s rights more than her right to safety. This could be you next
🚨 This is Alaska.
We don’t have the luxury of pretending this is just a big-city problem.
Anchorage is small. Our resources are limited.
So when the city argues it’s “too expensive” to protect people, they’re really saying:
“Your safety isn’t worth the price.”
And you know what’s worst of all?
They knew.
They knew this man was dangerous.
They knew the community was at risk.
And they did nothing.
🧠 The Real Solution?
It’s not cruelty. It’s common sense.
•If you have a violent history, you don’t get access to public spaces — period.
•If you’re mentally ill and dangerous, treatment should be mandatory, not optional.
•If you run a public facility, your first duty is safety. Not ideology.
🧵 We’re told over and over again that we can’t criminalize homelessness.
Fine. I don’t agree with that myself.
But 💯 we damn sure better stop decriminalizing violence.
Angela Harris’s life is the price of cowardly leadership.
💯 She’s not a talking point.
💯 She’s not a statistic.
She is a victim of a system that knew better — and chose to do nothing.
It’s time to call this what it is State-sanctioned negligence.
And if we don’t change course?
Angela won’t be the last.
There’s a court hearing now in Angela Harris’ case against the city. She’s the woman who was stabbed and paralyzed at the Loussac Library in 2022 by a mentally ill man who “slipped through the cracks.”
The city is moving for summary judgement, say if they are not responsible for what happened. But they did say how sorry they are that she was stabbed and paralyzed. What a joke.
@DHSgov how come only the illegals get a thousand bucks and a free flight? that don’t seem right. i’ll take a grand and a flight to Cabo, @DHSgov.
maybe i can round up a few illegals to come on the flight and we can pool our money and celebrate Spring Break/Cinco de Mayo style.
“we’re going to follow the law”..
when? it’s been damn near a decade that we haven’t. @GovDunleavy ran and won the Office of Governor based on the lie of a full pfd.
proposing a bullshit budget every year that has zero chance of passing the #akleg..
same shit, different year
@Jennifer_Gracey@AlaskanRants it looks cool, but with the printing for a 3 day conference? can that part be graffitied over or something so it can be used longer or will will the next event need it’s own stair liner graphics?
and the carbon usage.. i hope someone planted a tree or sequestered some carbon..
