I plan on using the information I gathered from this course and my classmates in my future practice as a medical professional. I believe that I can now better educate my future patients on what could be contributing to their nutritional issues after this class! :) #beh353@beh353
@EmmaDArpinoRD Thank you for your insight on how RD's are integral parts of medical teams in hospitals. Before this lecture I didn't realize that RD's had to approve G-tubes. I just assumed that doctor's placed the order and that was it! @beh353#beh353
How cool is this app!? I've always worried about whether I'm buying the most nutritious options, but now I can use this app to alleviate my concerns! Also think about how great this could be for children to mess around with/learn about nutritious food options! @beh353#beh353
@paige_fairbanks@EmmaDArpinoRD Hi Paige! I totally agree, this is a massive misconception that we as a society have. Some people even look down upon using frozen fruits and vegetables! This lecture gave me even more insight into the true nutritional comparisons between frozen and fresh foods! @beh353#beh353
@ros_teda @beh353 I always find it so interesting how the foods we eat have a direct correlation to our eyes. As an individual with horrible vision I was led to believe from a young age that it was solely my genetics. While genetics do play a part, food intake is another key aspect!#beh353@beh353
Many women enter pregnancy without knowing what they should and should not eat. Not only is this article extremely detailed, easy to read, and reputable, it also provides examples of where you can get the recommended nutrients everyday!

@kjohnson31@beh353 Yes! Exactly! Sadly that's the experience many overweight individuals have. They are completely written off because of the mindset that their weight has to be the root cause of all their problems. As future healthcare professionals we should strive for change! #beh353@beh353
I've gained a relatively strong understanding of what it's like to be overweight in the medical world after this week. I'll use this knowledge to diagnose future patients, instead of writing off all health issues as being directly correlated to their weight.

@MMansour0808@beh353 I believe my sentiment might have been mistaken due to the character limit of 280. I meant that I know how damaging it can be for patients to experience poor care as a result of their weight and I plan on preventing that in the future with the care I provide. #beh353@beh353
I've known many individuals who have attempted to lose weight by eating less without realizing how harmful it could be. This is due to the lack of information and education about weight loss in pop culture/media. Check out this blog post for an informative take! #beh353@beh353
If you are a weight=conscious athlete who "eats like a bird," you likely should read this blog. Undereating is not without harm.

@EmilyBullen10@beh353 I completely agree, it is shocking to learn how frequently they are misdiagnosed! :( I also plan to implement this weeks content into my future practices as a medical professional in hopes of bettering the cultures surrounding the overweight population in the U.S. #beh353@beh353
Check out this research article on why it is so difficult to lose/maintain weight loss. This study goes in depth in terms of hormonal, environmental, and neurological factors that effect weight loss. Definitely worth a look in my opinion!

@KipeSeleni@beh353 This is an excellent point! Following celebrity diets doesn't always work out the best in the end. People are either mislead, end up sick, or end up upset that they still don't look like their favorite celebrity after following the same diet! It can be harmful! #beh353@beh353
The stigmas surrounding weight loss in America especially are astounding. Everyone assumes it is easy for people to lose weight, and that they are simply lazy, but it has a lot more to do with our biological functions than the general public would like to admit. #beh353@beh353
I was shocked to learn how unlikely it is for those who are classified as overweight/obese/morbidly obese to obtain a 'normal' weight. I had no idea the odds of them being able to lose enough weight to be considered 'normal' was ~0.5% for men and ~0.8% for women! @beh353#beh353
@CarlySul12 @beh353 I am totally guilty of not only not having the time to make myself healthy food, but also going out to fast food restaurants regularly. I completely see where you are coming from with it being a rather large barrier to healthy eating! @beh353#beh353
This is a very detailed study about college students and their eating habits. The study concluded that most students eating habits have to do with social, cognitive, and environmental factors. Definitely worth a read if you the have time! https://t.co/dLSqwS2aD0 @beh353#beh353
I heavily relate to not having enough time to make something healthy to eat. As a commuter student I'm typically running to catch a train and am often disorganized in the morning. If I tried making something healthy in the morning I'd be running late everywhere. @beh353#beh353
@Samantha0439339@beh353 So crazy that this company is trying to say that their pill has over 100% of beneficial vitamins and minerals! How is that even possible? It's actually rather funny when you think about it! This misleading information is wild! #beh353@beh353
