With Palestra incoming I still don't think Gusto would be sold compared to what the masses think. Gusto has a lot of chemistry with Palmer on that right flank that I think Alonso would still love to leverage next season
I envision Alonso's RB/RWB options to be both Gusto & Palestra as natural defenders holding width while Palmer & Estevao occupy the right half space as inside forwards
The LWB profiles would likely be Neto/Quenda as Alonso prefers a natural defensive player on one flank (Grimaldo) and a more offensive wing back on the other side (Frimpong) , rather than fielding two natural defensive players as wingbacks on both sides. It causes severe rigidity when attempting to break down low blocks due to a lack of dynamism from natural defensive players holding width.
This is also because Alonso's 3-4-2-1/4-2-3-1 system often fields a lopsided shape that tilts laterally depending on the positioning of the widest player on each flank
@KelsTheAnalyst Yeah true tbf but at Wolfsburg he used to play RCB in a back 3 & 4 a lot, so maybe there’s a chance that we use him x Colwill in a back 4🤷🏾♂️. I remember seeing a couple of Raj’s tweets about him when he was at Wolfsburg and he was rating him highly but yes we will have to see.
