#Europe is under siege from a 'Winter Heatwave' at the very beginning of January. Many temperature records have been obliterated in mainland Europe. In some countries, the summer May temperatures have been recorded in winter January!

If we look after our planet, it will look after us. However, history has shown that we have looked after ourselves instead. Consequently, our planet is in the grip of #ClimateChange. We really need to shift our interest to looking after our planet, to break free from this grip.
(2/2) This is also taking place due to the weakening of the #Arctic#JetStream, because the Arctic is warming 3-4X faster than the rest of the world due to #ClimateChange. Such extreme weather events may become more frequent due to the #ClimateCrisis. We must #KeepHomeHabitable.
(1/2) The extreme weather phenomenon, called the ‘Bomb Cyclone’, (now in North American continent) is a once in a generation storm. It intensifies quickly and forms from cold air colliding with rising warm air creating a low pressure system. The cooler air sinks to fill the gap.
@FrediOtto@wxrisk@MajaVahlberg @PaolaAArias2 @harrinluke@ZachariahMariam @RobertVautard @RoopSingh Conversely, winter is only starting today (21 Dec) in the northern hemisphere, and the UK has already experienced the coldest night of the year (-15.7 C) due to the recent Arctic Blast. #Weather extremes are becoming more untimely.

Nature-based solutions (NBS) alone cannot achieve #NetZero. The urgent actual #ClimateAction required is #Mitigation. NBS may prove risky because forests and soils are threatened by fire, disease, farming, and deforestation. They could lose their stored C back to the atmosphere.
The #AirQuality in Peshawar is deteriorating. This is very alarming during the winter season. The Air Quality Index (AQI) is 'Very Unhealthy'. This will result in multiple health problems in residents and communities of #Peshawar. The right to clean air is a fundamental right.
#ClimateAdaptation simply means to make changes so that we can cope with the impacts of #ClimateChange, such as improving flood defences, developing heat-resistant crops, building sea walls, preparing drought management plans, etc. This is crucial for the heat already locked in.
@COP27P@OvaisSarmad@simonstiell Though the #LossAndDamage compensation funding is a historic outcome in #COP27, the 'main' thing that remains to be agreed on is "#Mitigation" - reducing emissions, and so from this perspective COP27 was not successful. The root cause of this global crisis needs to be addressed.
How we store #Energy in innovative batteries and novel storage systems from intermittent #Renewable power sources, for times when the sun is not shining or the wind is not blowing, is going to be one of the key factors to tackling the #ClimateCrisis under rapid decarbonisation.
#Microplastics are an invisible danger. Due to abrasion, plastics are disintegrated into microscopic particles, which contaminate air, soil, and water (all essential for our survival). It is affecting the entire planet, even found in fresh snow in the #Arctic.

“Every time I see images of nature in all its stunning and surprising beauty, it reinforces in me that this planet Earth, our home, is absolutely worth fighting for.”

Plants can be highly sensitive to environmental cues. Tulip flowers open and close in response to environmental cues of heat and light. Tulips at night time:
@klimatbevakaren What is natural are 'hazards' (due to changing climates). There is a misconception that 'disasters' are natural. In UNDRR's definition of a 'disaster', the word 'natural' does not exist. In AR6, the #IPCC has confirmed that #ClimateChange is not natural. https://t.co/gotzlN5c0p
@Dominiquetaegon Pakistan's example has been misrepresented. In fact, the climate-change-exacerbated monster #Monsoon, with record breaking rainfall, left 1/3rd of the country (the size of UK) inundated. The natural landscape relief system simply could not cope with the 'unprecedented' rainfall.
