One habit that has served me well over the years is documenting my achievements as they happen. When appraisal time comes around, I’m not trying to remember what I did in January. I already have it all documented.

Your manager may know you’ve been busy, but they may not remember every initiative you led, every process you improved, every risk you mitigated, or every result you delivered.

Take your appraisal seriously. Keep track of your wins, quantify your impact where possible, and make it easy for your contributions to speak for themselves.

You’ve done the work. Don’t let poor documentation hide your value.

I was surprised she reached out that late, but I sent everything immediately. She even told me to stay awake in case she needed anything else.

The next day, HR released the promotion list . I was number three in my department.

That’s when it clicked: she had been writing my promotion justification at that hour. I later heard she fought so many people to get my promotion. That promotion opened so many doors for me.
