Friday is the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture.
Despite being prohibited under international law, torture persists around the world.
The UN has long condemned it as one of the vilest acts human beings can inflict on one another.

Two years after the 2024 protests, Kenya stands at a critical moment.
As citizens exercise their constitutional right to peaceful assembly, we call on the National Police Service to facilitate protests, protect life, safeguard journalists and medics, and ensure there is no repeat of the unlawful killings that shocked our nation.

#AmnestyReads: Kenya’s soaring public debt isn’t just numbers, it’s lives. As repayments tighten, ordinary people bear the cost through reduced public services, higher taxes, and deepening inequality.
We must ask: who truly benefits, and who is paying the price? It’s time for accountability, transparency, and a people-centred approach to economic justice.

Nairobi 🇰🇪 spoke loud & clear today. The rising tide of violence against women and children is not just a statistic—it is a profound failure of our society and justice system. We need a coordinated national response, and accountability.

“Today, we join the women, girls and children of Kenya to condemn the continued rise in the killings of women and disappearance of children. The statistics are grim. According to Odipodev, 3 women are killed every day and on average, Government of Kenya statistics show that 1 child goes missing per hour. These are not a series of isolated incidents. The trends point to a national security crisis and concern. These figures further illustrate a profound failure of protection. We are calling on the Government of Kenya to immediately declare femicide and the disappearance of children a National security concern and commit the resources, leadership and urgency required to end this crisis. The country has had enough reports, enough taskforces and enough promises. What is needed now is action. Every delayed response costs lives. The safety of women and children is not a special interest issue; it is a national security priority and a measure of whether our country truly values human life, dignity and justice. As we mark Madaraka Day today, let us remember that our freedom cannot be complete until all the women, girls and children of these country are free from violence in all its forms and manifestations”.
— George Morara, Executive Director, Amnesty International Kenya
Every woman and child deserves safety, dignity and protection. The continued violence against women and children is heartbreaking and unacceptable. As a society, we must speak out against femicide, abuse, neglect and all forms of violence targeting the most vulnerable.
Protecting women and children is not a favour it is a responsibility. Justice systems, communities, families and leaders must act decisively to prevent violence, support survivors and hold perpetrators accountable.Silence protects abusers speaking out can save lives.
