Let us pray. God give us the grace to be aware of our desires and may the Holy Spirit empower us to be content and resist the temptation to gratify our flesh that lead us to greed and envy. May we instead delight ourselves in You, oh Lord. In Jesus name, Amen. 🙏🏼
Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.” Luke 12:15 NLT
Greed doesn’t start big. Usually it starts from small cravings and at first seems harmless.
That’s why the Bible always warns us to be aware of our desires and where it leads to. Not that God does not want us to desire good things, but to watch our desires that leads us away from Him and His will.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” Psalms 139:23-24 NLT
“Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin. As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.”1 Peter 4:1-2 NIV
Christ suffered once in for all for our sins to bring us to God and live a new life in Him. His forgiveness is not a ticket though for us to just get away with our guilt and still continue doing what, in the first place, caused us separation from Him.
“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.”
1 Peter 3:18 NIV
