➡️Put kids through university.
➡️A real economic engine in Limpopo.

Then the ANC’s land restitution geniuses handed Zebediela Citrus Estate over to the Bjatladi CPA in 2003.

What followed was the usual script; internal factional wars, zero governance, financial mismanagement, and straight-up corruption.

Debt exploded to R170–R180 million. The operating companies went into liquidation. The primary packhouse burned down in 2023 because it was left unguarded and unfenced, pure incompetence on display.

Two decades later the place is a shell. Orchards neglected. Infrastructure wrecked. Production destroyed. Jobs gone. And now the same government that oversaw the collapse is back with “revival plans,” bringing in private partners while the CPA keeps the title. Classic. Destroy it first, then beg competent people to come fix what ideology broke.

This isn’t an isolated “teething problem.” It’s the predictable outcome of handing highly technical commercial farms to structures that prioritise politics and patronage over production. Productive White-owned farms get turned into monuments to failure, jobs disappear, and the community that was supposed to be “empowered” ends up poorer.

Land reform without skill, capital discipline, and accountability isn’t justice. It’s economic vandalism dressed up as restitution.

Zebediela didn’t just collapse. It was systematically run into the ground. And the people who cheered the loudest when it was handed over are nowhere to be found when the trees die and the debt piles up.
