My takeaways before I cash it in for the night -
THIS ONE IS ON THE STAFF
Embarrassing performance. Really hard to swallow after a hot start to the season.
There are some real concerns about this staff and how they handle in game adjustments. Too many times it seems like they have zero answers - or even a new wrong answer to try.
All week - we talked about the difficulties in going into that environment against that DL with the injuries, a young QB, and coming off the most physical game most of these kids have ever played. They seemed completely unprepared.
Things we said this week:
- Keelon needed the quick game, over the top won’t be there bc he won’t have time. A lot of long, developing plays.
- There would be running opportunities. There were, we just keep bailing on them even when they worked. Grubb’s playcalling has reverted back to damning his offense.
- Grubb had to put Keelon in the best positions possible, feels like he did the opposite.
- At times this year it has felt like Grubb has started to learn how to call plays in this conference, any growth in that area went out the window today.
- Tennessee couldn’t win with 4, they did.
- We talked about having to get the pass rush going. It’s been almost non-existent against more physical teams. Feels like Alabama still isn’t where it needs to be in the trenches although it’s better than last year.
- The biggest thing we talked about was having to see this version of Alabama handle itself going into the second half of the season. In seasons past, the offense has taken a turn for the worst in the second half of the season, and the defense follows suit bc who is going to keep forcing field goals when they spend that much time on the field? How is this staff going to adjust when someone puts the gameplan out there on how to slow down Russell? Georgia did that last week. Tennessee did the same thing. The trend is EXTREMELY CONCERNING.
- This was a game we felt like Alabama could certainly lose, but what I saw looked exactly like what’s happened to the Tide under KDB the last two seasons.
No excuses - got our ass handed to us, in every aspect. At some point KDB is going to live by the sword or die by it, and right now that sword is his coordinators.
Roll Tide always. Stings but we got another one this week - lock in.
Counterpoint: Heavy metal sort of dropped without much fanfare, people say the getting killed hype was manufactured and part of it obviously was but heavy metal had been slowly accruing praise by the time GK dropped
Geordie greep spent his entire career critiquing hypermasculinity, inceldom, and the bigotry and degradation of women that work in tandem with those characteristics. His satire is uncomfortably prescient
Two years ago, the panthers were set to face the bears in what would turn out to be a 26 point blow out
Bryce Young sat on the bench, got labeled the worst draft bust in NFL history, and was thought to have maybe played his last career game as a Panther
Fast forward two years, Bryce Young has come off the best 4 game stretch of his career. Leads the league in passing yards, and is a legitimate MVP candidate. The panthers also have two superstar receivers to go along with it
They just beat the lions on Sunday night football, and are headed into the bye on top of the NFC south
Truly remarkable.
