URGENT CALL TO ACTION: Join ASAP in Bham on Mon. to rally against new prison construction in our state. As the federal government strips away our rights, AL’s state legislature continues to profit off incarceration. Logistical details and phone zap information incoming.
Read this op ed by one of our members about the funding of new prisons in AL using COVID relief money and bonds from @askRegions@RaymondJames@Stephens_Inc https://t.co/OwswHk2fyL
@RaymondJames The queer community is disproportionately incarcerated compared to cis/straight individuals, so instead of just putting some flags up and tweeting, support the queer community by not financially supporting a plan to build more mega prisons. #RJcares
@askRegions This is ironic considering you're helping to fund a prison plan that will contribute to the mass incarceration of primarily black and brown individuals.
@kayiveyforgov So you care about the lives of unborn fetuses but not the lives of the thousands of incarcerated individuals who will be affected by your prison plan?
Abortion bans disproportionately affect uterus owners of color. As Roe is overturned and the AL abortion ban injunction is lifted, @askRegions@Stephens_Inc@RaymondJames@kayiveyforgov continue the mass incarceration of POCs through a plan to build 2 new mega prisons in AL
The dialogue needs to expand beyond the right to choose to have an abortion, to understand when we ignore prison sentences that bury black & poor women in prisons, that also is a reproductive injustice as it takes away their choice to have children.
Despite outrage across the world about his LWOP sentence for a $9 robbery, Alabama lawmakers have done nothing to fix the habitual offender law & cases like Willie Simmons, yet Willie still writes me sometimes just to tell me thanks for exposing his case 2 years ago. -1
