Heroic Teen Saves Baby Cousin from Apartment Fire Smoke
In a smoke-filled apartment fire, 18-year-old Vanessa Scott quickly slid her 7-month-old cousin Zaniyah Alexander through the child safety bars of a fifth-floor window.
She held the baby outside in fresh air, below the rising toxic smoke.
Firefighters soon arrived with a ladder, rescuing Zaniyah, a 6-year-old, Vanessa, and the rest of the family. All 10 people inside survived. Zaniyah was completely unharmed—the only one without injury.
Zaniyah’s mother, Saschelle Hewitt, said: “She saved Zaniyah’s life.” Vanessa simply replied that the smoke was overwhelming, and she knew she had to keep the baby breathing.
Pure family instinct in crisis.
As Memorial Day comes to an end, I want to recognize all those who gave up their lives to protect our freedoms. Also, thanks to all who attended my Special X Space tonight to honor and remember our fallen heroes. Listen to the attached recording if you missed the live show.
