Dec. 21 marked the solstice, which means we have a fresh update for our WFO Plant List! A new version of the Plant List is released every six months in conjunction with the solstices. Swipe through to see what’s new since June.
We are so proud to share that the latest Global Strategy for Plant Conservation specifically recognizes the World Flora Online as an essential part of plant conservation. Watch to learn more about the history of GSPC and WFO.

#GingerPlantOfTheWeek is the genus #Srilankanthus endemic in #SriLanka recently described in our TAXON paper (https://t.co/u6lzPPJvQi). The type was first described in 1861 as Elettaria nemorale. Only after Lakmini D. K. Marasinghe recollected it in 2013 did we get this insight.
Green cardamom, #Elettaria#cardamomum, #Zingiberaceae, is an economically important #spice plant. Our research (https://t.co/RG22lnQxa0) demonstrates that this has close wild relatives in #India and #SriLanka. These may have an important role for spice production in the future.
