Lawyer-activist Latheefa Koya has criticised the prosecution for withdrawing its appeal against Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s acquittal in the foreign visa system corruption case.

The former MACC chief commissioner said she oversaw the initial investigations and recommended Zahid be charged based on comprehensive evidence.

A young UiTM Reserve Officer Training Unit (Rotu) cadet, Muhammad Amir Rusyaidi Muhammad Zaidi, died on Nov 13, 2024, after enduring a gruelling, unscheduled training session that allegedly involved physical abuse.

Amir’s father Muhammad Zaidi Abdul Rahman claimed in a police report that the cadet had been subjected to various forms of physical abuse, including being stepped on the chest, forced to perform horse-like movements with a trainer riding on his back, and ordered to jump like a kangaroo.

These activities on Nov 10 were allegedly captured on video by the trainer.
