Willie Nelson at home in Tennessee, late 1960s. His house subsequently burned down on Dec. 23, 1969. While the fire was raging Willie dashed in to retrieve two things: Trigger, his guitar, and a pound of marijuana. Willie later said "I wasn’t being brave running in there to get my dope — I was trying to keep the firemen from finding it and turning me over to the police.” But it was in the aftermath of this fire that Willie decided that fate might be telling him that Nashville wasn't the place for him. He moved back to Texas, hooked up with Waylon Jennings, got the hippies and the rednecks together at the Armadillo World Headquarters, and launched the outlaw country movement.
