@sns206725906@dstaples What. Has. He. Done. To. Earn. It?
You don't get a second chance at one of the most prestigious jobs in your industry just because you waited it out. You have to earn it back. Burden of proving he deserves it is on him.
@dstaples It is no secret we see the world very differently. What you call sanctimony I would call accountability in this case.
Not sure Babcock has done much to earn a chance other than wait for it. Call that sanctimony, but when you mess up, you fess up & step up. Show me where he has?
@dstaples That's not the question at all. The ? is "Is he the available coach most likely to help them win a Stanley Cup next year?"
They might be the only ppl in the hockey world who would answer yes. They're betting huge they are smarter than e/o else. Hasn't worked out well in the past
@dstaples I get that the Oilers get to make this choice & if they feel Babcock is the guy, that is their right but it is fair to question the process that leads to such a questionable decision.
This is probably their last chance to get it right w/ McDavid. Betting it on Babcock is nuts.
@RomulusNotNuma Like...you don't think Babcock deserves a life-long expulsion for his behaviour, so you support him getting another opportunity without considering if he is the best coach available. I don't see much of a viable argument that he is.
@RomulusNotNuma I honestly think that the world is so divided now that people attack or defend things reflexively based on the top line story without digging into and asking if they really support the decision on merit... (1 of 2)
@dstaples You are positioning it like a prison sentence. There are 32 of these jobs in the world. Given his past behaviours I am not sure how he can be considered one of the 32 best options at this point. IMO he clearly isn't even without factoring in his behavioural issues
@dstaples There is a difference between 2nd chances & getting the honour of playing in the best hockey league in the world.
I am ok with some of the names you listed, but not others based on the nature of the infraction and the circumstances.
Babcock's second chance was CLB. He blew it.
Claude Julien is literally accepting a job to coach in Switzerland. Would he not be an option before this? Have I missed something that DQ's him? Gotta be better than Babcock, no?
Sources: The Edmtn Oilers are consulting with the NHLPA to see if there are objections that must be resolved before potentially hiring Mike Babcock. Amid allegations of invading players privacy, Babcock resigned in CBJ as Head Coach in 2023. Further investigation may be required.
