Last June, an OAS officer was publicly humiliated at the BMC office in Bhubaneswar dragged by the neck in front of his own staff by BJP goons. Officers rose in protest, the local BJP leader Jagannath Pradhan was arrested, but within 48 hours he walked free. That soft-pedaled response set the tone. Had firm, exemplary action been taken then, today a politician-turned-Ollywood actor Mr. Arindam Roy would not have dared repeat the similar outrage against an officer.
