Tomorrow, Thursday 9/7, the Albany Common Council will be voting on a resolution titled "Encouraging the public to refrain from giving money directly to individuals seeking money from others.”
CDDSA and @UTAlbany invite you to speak out about the ideas behind this thinking.
⭐️We have moved the Freedom Flea to Labor Day, Monday September 4th!⭐️
We will be joined by Black vendors from the Capital Region + beyond, local poets and performers, & we will have activities for kids!
This was defeated in Saratoga Springs and they understood it would not solve the issues at hand and instead they put resources towards building a shelter. What will the ever blue city of Albany decide?? @MayorSheehan
The Albany common council is trying to push a law to ban panhandling…
To further criminalize homelessness is to not understand the real issue at hand. And who will enforce this law? APD. We encourage everyone to speak to their representatives about this. Stay tuned for more…

Solidarity is being spread in Albany. It is amazing to see these two tenants unions come together to discuss their shared struggles. When we unite, we win!
One year ago, on Father's Day / Juneteenth, an armed security guard hired by Opus Management brandished an AR-15 on a group of Black youth who were playing outside. That ignited months of negotiations full of empty promises made by Capitol Crossings. The tenants are still HERE
Bleecker Terrace and Parkview Tenant Associations held their first joint meeting to strategize around shared issues: complacent code enforcement, inactive property management, plumbing/drainage issues, etc. #These tenants are setting the foundations of a city-wide tenant movement
"Tenant associations representing Parkview Apartments and Bleecker Terrace are coming together to talk about ways to improve their living conditions. Even though the complexes are under different management, the groups are suffering from similar issues." https://t.co/lpjZ7KK3rn

Last week the city’s public safety commissioner filed two charges against him for speaking out at a city council meeting the week prior.
This morning our co-founder Lexis Figuereo had to turn himself in before appearing in court. He was patted down and handcuffed in the hallway
Today, we sent Saratoga Springs Commissioner Jim Montagnino an open letter calling for his resignation.
Since releasing this letter, two more Black activists have been charged.
