Epic Ramayana mentions that it was constructed by Rama to reach Lanka and rescue his wife Sita from king Ravana. Some early Islamic sources describe Adam as crossing from Sri Lanka to India via this bridge after his expulsion from Eden and falling on earth at Adam's Peak.

Finally made it to Adam's Bridge – a 48 km (30 mi) long connection between India and Sri Lanka which was passable on foot until 15th century.
In Sri Lanka and India it is called Rama's Bridge (Rama Setu).
