Those issues you mentioned are largely infrastructural issues that demand large investments.

Subsidy has largely made the sector inefficient and stifled competition.

We correct the pricing, we improve efficiency and make the sector attractive to investment.

We have a legacy debt of N4 trillion, gas companies are owed $1.5 billion. Nigeria’s gas production this year has increased but domestic supply are remained the same. The reason isn’t far fetched

Decentralization of our grid will demand private capital.

Transmission and distribution issues will also demand investments.

It’s hard to attract investment when you have debt, inefficiency, pricing issue and lack of transparency.

In essence, the government should get a loan, fix the needed electricity infrastructure, meter almost all houses if not all, and deliver stable electricity. Then they are free to remove the electricity subsidy, enough of taking without giving anything back to the masses.

PRESIDENT TINUBU DIRECTS COMPREHENSIVE FOOTBALL REFORM

President Bola Tinubu has directed a comprehensive reform of Nigerian football to overcome repeated failures to qualify for major regional, continental and world tournaments.

“The reform must respond to a longstanding need to strengthen governance, administration, stakeholder representation, development pathways, domestic competitions and accountability across Nigerian football,” he said.

The President noted that while other sports had recorded meaningful progress since the reset of the sports sector under the re-established National Sports Commission, football has continued to struggle because of structural weaknesses within the system.

“Football, Nigeria’s most popular sport and the greatest beneficiary of public support, investment and national attention, has continued to struggle basically due to structural deficits within the system,” Tinubu said.

He stressed that Nigerian football must begin to match the country’s exceptional talent, passion and resources with stronger institutions and sustained performance.

President Tinubu directed the Chairman of the National Sports Commission to work with the NFF Secretariat and relevant football stakeholders to ensure continuity in essential football administration and facilitate a broad, consultative reform process.

The process will include appropriate engagement with FIFA and CAF while safeguarding Nigeria’s obligations within the international football framework.

The President called on football stakeholders and Nigerians to support the transition and work together to build a stronger, more accountable and successful football system.

Some songs become relevant again when life gives them a new meaning.

In the Album Fuji Fantasia, Agbara Iku Medley, Sikiru Ayinde Barrister sang words that was not specifically written for Alhaji Taiwo Hassan “Ogogo”. Yet, following the passing of the veteran thespian and actor, listening to this particular passage feels remarkably poignant.

As we remember Ogogo, Alhaji Agba’s words offer another moment of reflection: death comes for everyone, but the life we live and the legacy we leave behind become our enduring testimony.

Our beloved Ogogo has taken his final bow. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus.
