• RSSB CEO Regis Rugemanshuro explains the thinking behind the Board’s recent acquisition of Inyange Industries, Ruliba Clays and BK General Insurance, and what the deals mean for members, consumers, employees, and #Rwanda’s economy.
• RSSB’s assets under management have reached Rwf3.9 trillion, more than doubling over the past five years.
• Rugemanshuro says the acquisitions are aimed at unlocking greater value from businesses RSSB already understands, strengthening governance and generating sustainable, risk-adjusted returns for members.
• He explains how full ownership could drive growth at Inyange and Ruliba, while the acquisition of BK General Insurance is expected to strengthen RSSB’s insurance portfolio alongside SONARWA.
“The objective is not to collect companies. It is to build a resilient portfolio that protects and grows members’ savings.”
• The RSSB boss also outlines plans for stronger domestic businesses, regional expansion, potential future listings and greater diversification of the pension fund’s investments beyond Rwanda.
• “Members should judge the acquisitions in stages. Over the first 12-24 months, they should look for stronger governance, higher capacity utilisation, better operating efficiency, improved products and service, and disciplined execution of the insurance consolidation. Over three to five years, the test becomes financial: growth in earnings and cash flow, sustainable dividends, stronger returns on capital and a meaningful increase in the value of the companies.”
• He explains that they aim for all three businesses to rank among the strongest performers in their respective sectors, while supporting RSSB’s ambition to maintain double-digit returns across the overall portfolio over the next five years.

🚢 Throwback to Kigali and the "Blue Corridors" panel, where Diane Karusisi, CEO of Bank of Kigali Plc, made a striking case: a landlocked country can still engineer its way out of its own geography.Rwanda cannot move the sea closer, and its trade still runs through the ports of Mombasa and Dar es Salaam. So, as she explained, the country focused on everything that was within its control, injecting efficiency and coordination into its own logistics chain rather than lamenting the map.
📦 The results are hard to argue with. By digitising trade and building one-stop border posts where customs, standards bodies, banks and every relevant agency work side by side, Rwanda has cut the transit time for cleared goods from 14 days a few years ago to just 3 days today. Same geography, radically different outcome
.🏗️ She also pointed to the dry port near Kigali, developed with DP World, which now handles containers bound for the markets of eastern DRC. Cargo flows through Kigali, business flows to the operator, and jobs flow to Rwandans, a neat illustration of how a logistics hub turns a constraint into an advantage. Her line said it best: "geography is not destiny." For African trade, friction, far more than distance, is often the real cost.
