@AmyRemeikis@GuardianAus Maybe we can get you on Threads now instead. You were one of the few people I came back here for, and I would like to come back less!
And the Guardian will be a lot poorer in your absence.
@HSmith24993512@QuantumFlux36 For many years, Arab conquerors were a tiny minority in their own empire. When conversions to Islam started, this actually placed pressure on the state finances, so this was entirely welcome.
i'm told there are many australians who haven't seen how simple the proposed constitutional amendment is…
i certainly hadn't seen it categorised into four parts.
it's really simple.
recognition + listening → better outcomes
let's get it done, together. #yes23
@lalithramachan1@trevster57@simonahac Just FYI: The scale of Chinese investment in renewables over the past five years is truly staggering. 546 billion last year, four times the US and three times the EU.

@revsdomp88949 @simonahac@CatmanForever The 1970s “it’s cooling” trope has been debunked multiple times but persists all the same.
I think you’ll find that even 50 years ago, almost all the science pointed towards global warming. A few now discredited papers were given undue prominence in the tabloids.
The concern about this book is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.....
The Internet is in the home and hands of every child and teenager in Australia.
If they are not able to access information about sex that answers questions about things that they want to know, they are going to find it elsewhere, and that place is the Internet; which in comparison to this book, is not always accurate & when searching for the things they want to know, they will be exposed to things they didn’t, but now will, & that will include some brutal, graphic & dangerous things.
Everyone is obviously, forgetting Dolly Dr segment in the Dolly magazine that was around for years.
My parents got me subscription to Dolly magazine for my 12th birthday & I read that Dolly Dr section religiously - because it answered the questions I had but didnt want to ask which often incl wanting to know the truth about things I had heard from other.
That was on every magazine stand in every newsagent in the country - and I don’t remember any hysterical do-gooders, trying to have it removed from the shelves.....
I’m pretty sure kids are hearing the argument about this book and are laughing at us all because you don’t see many kids or teens wandering down the aisles of Big W looking at books. The people who would be buying this book for them would be their parents hoping that if they put it in their room, as much as they may roll their eyes - when they do you have questions, they are going to have somewhere to go that will tell them the truth, and maybe keep them off the Internet searching for these things just a little bit longer.
It’s not a question of “do we want our kids to know about these things” - because they already do.
The question is, do we want them to know the truth about them and do we want them to be safe.
(The people who have an issue with this book should go campaign to have the Internet removed, Just like hamsters in a wheel that would keep them occupied for a while)
