Mithchell Johnson on Ben Stokes 🗣️
"What disappointed me was that so much of the conversation centered on Stokes that it almost overshadowed one of New Zealand’s finest overseas Test series victories".
"Do I think he’s England’s greatest all-rounder? No, I don’t. While I think he had some big match-winning moments, I don’t think he was a player that you were worried would dominate you consistently.
He could hurt you on his day but he wasn't someone who would give you sleepless nights.
But one thing I wouldn’t question was that, especially early in his career, he played to win and had that mongrel in him.
When the dust settles, I hope this series isn’t remembered simply as Stokes’ farewell. I hope it’s remembered as the series where New Zealand reminded everyone what winning Test cricket overseas still looks like.
One team dominated the headlines. The other walked away with the result.
💣🚨BREAKING: Zlatan To Ronaldo After Portugal Wass Eliminated From The World Cup.
Listen carefully. I’ve Patiently Waited For This Day….
🗣️Cristiano set the rules himself: “You’re not a legend until you win with your country.” Boom straight at Messi after 2014. The world cheered. Social media crowned him.
Then Zlatan watched.
Messi came back, won Copa América… twice. Suddenly: “Euro is bigger.”
🗣️Messi lifted the World Cup. New rule: “Only seven games, doesn’t count.” Cristiano even said a legend’s career can’t be defined by seven games. The same man who once said the World Cup would fulfill him.
Now he is 41. Portugal exits. New quote: “World Cup doesn’t define me.”
Zlatan laughs.
🗣️By your own law, Cristiano, you fall short. Five Ballons d’Or. One Euro. No World Cup. While Messi? He took everything, danced through generations, and never once needed to diminish anyone.
That is the difference.
One talked like a king.
The other played like a god… and left as the greatest.
Ibrahimović has spoken.
Cricket is a strange game. One player bows out with grace, a Kiwi icon, and goes about it without fanfare. Humble and fades into the sunset.
Another has it all filmed, with social media clips galore, then yanks the opener and bats himself.
Two very different retirement narratives
❌ "I've got a huge amount of respect for Brendon McCullum, but he's got to go with him."
👎 "I'm not convinced it's great for English Cricket, especially in the Test Match arena."
Steve Harmison believes there needs to be a change with England heading towards a series defeat
Daryl Mitchell played brilliant Test cricket today. England's batsmen have turned the game into a circus. McCullum has reduced English cricket to a laughing stock
Darryl Mitchell batted for 3 hours, got hit a number of times, got a brilliant 100 and we are batting like a bunch of halfwits.... embarrassing..Glad Stokes has gone, get Blob and The Kiwi gone too...
What we’ve seen today from Ben Stokes and @englandcricket is one of the most shameful, selfish and self-indulgent acts committed by any sporting team. They’ve insulted their opponents, their hosts at NCCC and the cricketing public.
This is disgraceful by England against a New Zealand team that doesn't even have any fit bowlers left. McCullum and Key should be joining Stokes by resigning today. Bazball was always absurd, but now it's gone beyond absurdity. Emilio Gay must feel he's entered a madhouse
