The evolution of gaming: Every once in a while, especially in the 80s and 90s, a game would be released that truly innovated a genre. It would introduce something that no other game had ever done before.
That's exactly what Descent did in 1995. It was the very first game with six degrees of freedom movement within a 3D graphics environment, allowing flight in any direction: forward/backward, left/right (slide/strafe), up/down, and full 360° rotation, creating a rather disorienting experience at first. It was easy to get lost and maybe even feel a bit of motion sickness.
Descent blew everyone's mind in 1995, and rightfully so. A whole new dimension of gaming was born, a leap in the evolution of how such kind of games could be played going forward.
A special mention also goes to the impeccable soundtrack, which perfectly fit the vibe when you were gliding through the tunnels and blasting your way through enemy ships.
@elonmusk You are kidding yourself, you can't get those numbers by taking down the demand; who will buy non essential things if they get fired because of them being displaced or replaced and the promise of UBI will only create a hyperinflation spiral.
@vision_ia I haven't played minecraft, but can the player take down the creeper? if don't, there is no way we can't be sure how far would it go to defend itself.
@HenriquezMax Y toda la gente que está comprando carro eléctrico va a generar una demanda mayor de energía sobre un sistema que no está preparado para esa carga.
A drumroll from the middle of the South Atlantic, starting about 80 minutes before the M7.4, building through the M5.0. You can HEAR it speed up. That's why we sonify data. Traced it: points at neither quake. Logged anyway. 1 sec of playback = 15 min of Earth. 🎧🌍
In 1964, Anthony Hopkins composed a beautiful waltz called And the Waltz Goes On. It was never performed, and over time the sheet music was forgotten.
Nearly 50 years later, his wife found the music and sent it to conductor André Rieu, who arranged for it to be performed in Vienna in 2011.
Imagine spending decades believing something you created would never be heard... then sitting in the audience as it comes to life for the very first time.
It's a reminder that not every dream happens when we want it to. Sometimes life has its own timing.
What's a dream you've held onto, no matter how long it's taken?

@PTrubey "at least in economies that embrace AI" then, what about those that don't? Poverty, scarcity? A full dependency of the system means a complete loss of independency/freedom, doesn't it?

Gobierno Petro tomó deuda equivalente a 5 gobiernos anteriores.
UBI?
@thebillyboone I still don't get how the economy is going to double when you are killing the demand by changing human job for automated ones. I think they will go and impose UBI.
We probably have ~3 years left where human labor still earns real money.
After that, most of it gets automated to the point where it doesn't pay.
This is the end of labor-based capitalism, the model where you trade hours for a wage and stack it over a 40-year career.
The window open right now is an information asymmetry.
A few people see it coming.
Most are waiting for it to be obvious.
That gap is the whole opportunity.
What I'd do with the window: convert time into things that survive the transition.
Bitcoin, hard assets, compute, energy, food production, and social credit/distribution
A wage is rent on your time.
Automate the time and the rent collapses. Owning scarce things is the esc
