It feels like 19 years later I’m losing my Granny all over again. My heart aches for her more than I have ever let myself feel and that is on suppressing our traumas and getting retraumatized when news like this breaks. Never tell anyone to just get over it. #215children
What???? This is a disgrace @CanadianPM -let the debate go forward, implement the TRC Calls to Action and stop fighting First Nations kids and residential school survivors in court.
There is a sit-in happening at X University at the statue of the genocidal architect. It must come down and the University renamed.
Bring shoes if you can in remembrance of the 215 Tk’emlúps te Secwe̓pemc children.
#XUniversity#TorCen#TorontoCentre
It was genocide and it is ongoing
For the #215children we lost, survivors of residential schools and the future of Indigenous children
PM Trudeau must go beyond words
He must immediately end all legal actions against Indigenous children and survivors fighting for their rights
“Imagine if the 215 children were white”
Sure, but if you need to invent imaginary white children in order to feel empathy and grief for real-life murdered Indigenous children... I don’t know what to say
Welcome to Canada where a request for an emergency parliamentary debate over finding the bodies of 215 First Nation children buried at a church school was turned down.
It didn't meet the "test" of national importance.
But we've had two emergency debates on pipelines this session.
📣RETWEET📣 if you think the federal government needs to support First Nations in the wake of this tragedy, immediately implement the TRC Calls to Action, and stop fighting First Nations children in court. #cdnpoli
@TheEagleist the only one reporting on how fucked up this is. @RyersonU care to respond? Maybe talk about changing your name instead of giving students and staff this empty “we care” statement.
Reminder to Indigenous people: whenever our collective traumas become widely discussed and analyzed, you don’t owe anyone outside your community a response. It’s not your job to educate the uneducated. Your health is your priority. Take care of yourself.
I’ve requested the Speaker allow for an Emergency Debate on the discovery of the graves of #215children
We grieve for these children and demand accountability from the federal govt
This govt must end all legal actions against Indigenous children & residential school survivors
Many people cannot afford to have school be their primary occupation, and the fact that working more than 32 hours a week excludes them from the opportunity to potentially work towards a more livable life through education and training doesn't sit right with me. @studentaidbc /5
So I just started my MSW, and I am very fortunate to have received a scholarship covering my tuition for this first term. I'm currently looking for funding options to cover my next term in case this scholarship doesn't get renewed. There are many bursaries out there /1
I have a livable wage, and a partner with a livable wage. This doesn't affect me too much. However, I think about low-income individuals who are yearning to go to school but cannot because they have to work multiple jobs to make rent, child care expenses, etc. /4
