@suchnerve@girlcloudnine Individual choice, government-level campaign. Is that eugenics? Even regardless of the societal level of adoption of such measures. (spent last 24hrs debating and such plus I've skin in the game so to speak as a product of such a policy)
@suchnerve@girlcloudnine I thought the same but now see it as not so clear-cut. Some countries for instance have all but eliminated certain genetic illnesses from the population via information campaigns about the "benefits" of prenatal screening and attendant embryo choice.
@kareem_carr These models are unreliable compared to both humans and other machines, like calculators. No one would buy a calculator with 95% accuracy and no one would hire a human who makes up entire datasets, reference lists and historical events as a matter of course.
@FeralHeather And I've no doubt that, at that level that approach/policy and its unquestioned acceptance by the population does amount to a kind of eugenics. Hasn't percolated all the way to the wikipedia article though. Again, thanks for taking the time.
@suchnerve I've found that part of evaluating a new therapist in the first 2-3 sessions is seeing what I end up saying to them and in what way precisely.
@Slendernibble@fuckyouiquit@jimstewartson@scott_squires The point here is that people can hold eugenicist beliefs regardless of their ability to enforce anything on anyone. And no, one can't wash their hands of it by letting the "degenerates" cleanse the "gene pool" themselves. Not when you essentially wish they did so.
@hannahspierMD So you continue your spread of misinformation even after a research cardiologist with 30 letters after her name gave you 20 reasons to maybe consider changing your mind after only needing to read her thread for 10 minutes.
Long COVID does serve a psychological purpose. For you.
@unMaskedRogue The other side of the argument attracts a lot of pro-lifers and transphobic accounts, but I wouldn't use that as evidence of anything. Reactionaries and outright scum (like the pos you quoted) will latch on to anything.
@Feathern_@fuckyouiquit@jimstewartson@scott_squires Well then I guess they should all drop dead along with their offspring so we can optimize our gene pool. I mean, except the ones who survive ie. the strong ones, amirite? /s ๐
@FeralHeather Disclaimer, I've thought about this a lot because I'm a product of eugenics under that definition and wouldn't be here if amniocentesis had indicated I've the same genetic illness as my older sibling.
@FeralHeather I don't understand how a 19th definition of eugenics could have included pre-natal screening and the legally recognized freedom to abort a fetus when both of these are 20th century concepts. Could you cite your sources?
@chyld989@fuckyouiquit@jimstewartson@scott_squires Of course these people would end up leaving their children orphaned or even dead. I wonder if the fucku's of this world would also celebrate that as "Darwinism" doing its job...
@NKY_Leftist You must be thinking you're beautifully threading that needle by only celebrating "choice" and not openly celebrating eugenics, aren't you.
Except it bloody shows.
