There are many of her songs on YouTube. I also particulary like her renditions of Shenendoah and of Auld Lang Syne.
@CurlyBlueEagle@PAHoyeck Read David Hume's 'Essays'. In his famous essay 'Of Essay Writing' he specifically states that one of the audiences for his writing is educated women as they are better judges of literature and aesthetics than men.
@nickfshort ...German found the complex sentence structure quite challenging, so I bought a copy of the translation in the Oxford World's Classics series. This has a really superb introduction by Ritchie Robertson which explains the social and political background to the novel.
@nickfshort You should, in my humble view, definitely read it! It's a fantastic novel and has been compared with 'Madame Bovary' and 'Anna Karenina' as novels about women trapped in unhappy marriages. Fontane has a very eloquent and refined writing style and, when I was reading it in...cont
Everyone was enabling Omar’s behaviour and laughing about what he was saying about twinx and Yasmin was the ONLY one who defended her. That says a lot about everyone’s behaviour in comparison to Yasmins. LOVE HER!

@HorcherF I'm interested to read your paper on Hume's aesthetics as his essay On the Standard of Taste is one of my favourite essays. I've downloaded the pdf, but I've been unable to get I translated. I'll need to get some help.
@HorcherF Thanks for the suggestions. I'll take a look at these. Most of what I've read on the history of aesthetics has been from the 18th century and, although I have a copy of one of Shaftesbury's volumes, I have not yet read it.
@HorcherF@NzKorrespondent ....present and it's very enjoyable. One can see that it strongly influenced Hume's 'Of the Standard of Taste', but Kant and Schiller were also familiar with it, and Lessing had even translated some of it.
@HorcherF@NzKorrespondent I believe that Burke's essay, which I have to admit I haven't read, was very influential. Another book which had a big influence on 18th century European discussions of aesthetics was Abbé Dubos's 'Critical Reflections on Poetry, Painting and Music'. I'm reading it at....cont
@HorcherF@NzKorrespondent Yes. Schiller's book on aesthetics is a wonderful book. It's interesting that both Kant and Schiller were familiar with Hume's main essay on aesthetics 'Of the Standard of Taste'.
@NzKorrespondent@HorcherF Kant, in his Prolegomena to any Future Metaphysics, was very critical of the critics of David Hume, and especially of Beattie. Kant thought that they had failed to understand Hume's arguments and their significance.
@HorcherF Jane Austen was familiar with, and influenced by, the writings of David Hume and Adam Smith ('The Theory of Moral Sentiments') on social interaction, sympathy and benevolence etc..
@nickfshort I watched Babylon Berlin for the first time last night (well, episodes 1 and 2 of series 5) on Das Erste. I found it to be very dramatic, atmospheric, fast-paced and well acted. It is certainly quite different from the more gentle German police drama,...cont
@74frankfurt 'Tanklager' at the top of the screenshot of the photograph means 'fuel depot'. There was a huge collection of these fuel tanks which stored fuel for the Navy and which were targeted in the Clydebank bombing raids.
