In a proof-of-concept study published today in JACC Advances, we studied the influence of sedation type (moderate versus general) on cognitive functions in patients undergoing left atrial appendage closure.
To assess cognitive function, we used a novel digital oculomotor biomarker measured with ViewMind virtual reality goggles.
We found that memory-based oculomotor function improved after LAAC with moderate sedation, but not with general anesthesia, underscoring the impact of anesthesia choice on cognition in elderly patients.

In our 🆕📝 @hrs_journal we measured LAP in 302 pts peri-LAAO:
💢Overall negligible LAP change after perc LAAO
💢 Predictors of ⬆️ LAP> the mean (38% of pts) were age, baseline LAP≤14, non-parox AF
💢Pts w ⬆️ LAP had ⬆️ PDL @ f/u
💢No impact on HF 🏥

🚩MR Grading with TEER
In our echo/Cath collaborative 📑, we🔬the impact of abn PV flow (systolic blunting/reversal) post-TEER
💢PV flow remains abn in most pts EVEN when final MR is mild
💢Abn PV ⬆️ invasive LAP
💢Abn PV ⬆️ death regardless of MR grade https://t.co/QoY8aHtVzD
Excited to share our article by @BiomedMtu#PhDstudent Brennan Vogl in @crfheart@crfshj that aims to assess how the epicardial coronary flow after AVR varies as #BP levels change in the presence of #CAD
